Ok, I have had curly hair all of my life. I'm thinking of changing it once the fall sports season is done. It is shoulder-length curly hair, and I was thinking of getting it permanently straightened. I can't really decide anymore because my friends all have mixed feelings as to straight or not straight, and my boyfriend liked it when it was straight for Homecoming.

What are your thoughts? I really can't decide, so please help!

I can't tell you what to do with your hair. I've had mine a million different colors, cuts, styles, straight , curly, wavy, ect.

If you do get it permanently straightened, remember in about 4-6 weeks (and every 4 -6 weeks after that) you will have to go in for re-touches as your hair grows. Also this is very damaging to your hair.

If/ When you decide to let it grow out it will go through an odd half curly half straight stage. So be sure to get a good straightner and regular trims around this time.

And use conditioner, if you don't already.

I have curly hair too and as much as I hate to say it, I always hate it. It's always the curly haired girls want straight and visa versa. But I found that it would really damages my hair if I got it chemically straightened. I found too that so many people envied me because I had the perfect curls which made me feel good in return. What I found that works amazing on straightening it is a wet to dry straightener. It takes a little bit to do it but it's worth it. And you shouldn't let a guys opinion decide how you want your hair.

You can do more damage to your hair when straightening rather than perming curly. Best advise is to use a straight iron for your hair. Some of the perms out there especially for going straight depending on the texture of ones hair can make the hair frizz and become brittle and lifeless. Try using the flat iron before doing anything drastic that you may regret.
Good Luck.

I have natural curly hair that is very thick, growing up I wished it was straight and not as thick. Every now and then I straighten it with a straightner. I borrow my aunts straightener. It works very good and it leaves my hair straight and soft. I don't remember the what brand the straightener is. I know she got it at Wal-Mart. I think it cost her $25.00. On the straightener I believe is says "Wet to Straight". You can use the straightener on wet or dry hair.

I would not suggest changing it. You probably did look good when you straightened your hair. If you can keep it up (as far as getting your perm treatments), then go for it. If you are good with hair maintenance, then go for it. Otherwise, don't do it. In my opinion, don't perm it - natural beauty is the best kind of beauty. If you are not satisfied with your hair as it is now, try cutting it or growing it a different length. Often times, a woman's face doesn't look the best because the length of her hair doesn't match her face or head shape. A woman might keep her hair long because she thinks that long hair is beautiful, but the case might be that long hair doesn't even match her face/head shape.
I understand that curly hair is hard to manage sometimes - to keep it looking it's best, try shampoos/conditioners that keep your hair soft but also infuse life into (bouncy curls!). I don't think gel looks good in curly hair - only use it if your hair needs to be pulled back into a ponytail. In the end, just KNOW what looks good on you and what doesn't, but don't sacrifice yourself for the sake of beauty. :)

First, straigten it so that it will become curly again. If you decide you like it straight.. then get it permanently straightened. If you dont like it, get a temporary straighten for homecomming.. only to have it go back to its curly consistancy later on.

I have curly hair too, and I sometimes wish it was straight. But the problem is that the treatment to make your hair straight is very harsh on your hair. It can damage your hair and lead to early baldness. Just be happy with your curls and tell your boyfriend to accept you as you are. If not, find another boyfriend.

I've always had straight hair, and all I've ever wanted was curly hair, I've had so many perms and all they did was fry my hair, so if your blessed with curly hair keep it, if you want it straight one day, buy a real GOOD straightener, that was you can always go back to curly

I say listen to your boyfriend, I think he would appreciate the gesture. Have you thought about a japanese straighten? Perfectly straight hair for months...

Get a hair straightener and wear it both ways. That way you are not doing anything permanent. That is what I do.
