Actually since this is in Religion & Spirituality section what I was getting at is If God is our "Parent" why would he rather us be in church instead of working at a soup kitchen during that time.

What has God told you to do? If he told you that you need to be at church be at church, if he told you to work in the soup kitchen do that, but OBEDIENCE is what God desires! PS you do not have to be at church to be giving God attention while you are serving others you are doing the will of God

I would rather have my children help their siblings. It would show me that I had set a good example in teaching tolerance and compassion, and that is far more important to me than their attention.

Children need to be able to do both- work with siblings, and yet be able to interact with adults
