well just start a conversation maybe by asking a question, then the conversation will go on .

Make small talk
ask him what he likes to do in his spare time....
talk about the news a movie you seen... what's going on if you guys attend the same school... how much you like him... but if you can't find nothing to talk about then call him back until you do. Nothing is worse than to call someone and there's more dead air than talking.

just act like you were face to face, dont be nervous, and if you go to school together, talk about people whom you both know. talk about music, movies that sucked, or movies that kicked ***. jus be cool and think of random stuff to talk about. anything.

Find out what he likes and talk about that, and if he likes you he'll ask you what you like because he wants learn more about you.
