I just moved from so frickin' cal after waaaay to long living there- it's highly overrated. the people are pretentious and very into the keeping up with the jones's and showing what they've got. there's a ton of superficiality goin' on in general and it's a lot of poser bs.
granted- yes. people on an individual basis can be cool, but... unfortionately... you have to weed through a lot of dregs.
oh- and so cal in general is hugely overrated. pricey. crowded. hella shitty traffic. etc. etc. don't go. stay home.

Venice is awesome! Yes, people tend to stick to their own little clicks(high school idiot mentality). If you want to be YOU then this IS the place to live. I've lived in Venice 3 years. Los Angeles for 30 years. Done the small town thing.
Generally speaking: Small town was slow and easy, pay was dreadfully low, people were simpletons. Then there was St Louis people they were definitely tough. L.A. people can be fake. I think good people are hard to find. I messed up recently, but, now I'm totally a new man and aiming for genuine integrity (this time for real). My advice, people are like how they drive on the roads. We drive with a purpose and we have no regards for who is in front, rear or sides of our vehicle. We generally speaking are not nice. We don't slow down to talk to the neighbors when we probably should every so often. Yes we are super busy, but, way too often tailgate the driver in front of us to cause more traffic that just stresses everyone around.

^^^^^^ damn bunch of haters! hahahaha no we are nice people, but yes the people by beverly hills or brentwood area are a bit snobby but thats where the people that got lots of money are at and dont want to fratornize with the other 'civilians' LOL. But were just like everyone else
