Honey I have been seeing psychiatrists for over twenty years now and never have I heard such a crappy piece of advice. When you are depressed you shouldn't be by yourself. You need to be around people to help you feel better not feel worse laying around thinking about all of your problems. Are you sure that you heard him right? I think if I were you I would seek the help of another Psychiatrist. Good Luck and God Bless you

Because he's not a good psychiatrist. Anybody on the street could offer a nursery rhyme. He supposedly went to medical school and then specialized in psychiatry and is charging out the wazoo - I would hope he would have something better to offer! Look out for yourself and don't be afraid to question whether or not he is the right doctor for you.

Day not night means it's bright not gloom and doom. Open up your heart it will be alright means everything turns out alright don't worry, don't obsess over things. Did he prescribe anti-depressants, also? I think he is basically trying to get you to see that you have to see the bright side of life, even if you have to say things to yourself, like things will be alright, I AM Going to be content and happy until you start to believe them and incorporate them into your being.:-)

Ask them about it. I'm sure they'll have a good explanation. Depression is all a mental thing. It will get better if you try. I totally understand how hard it is though. Maybe you should get some meds? Those help a great deal. Try Zoloft.

If you are serious, you need to get another psychiatrist. He should be telling you whether or not you need drugs and if you don't then recommendig therapy from a psychologist.

The time is right...take each moment by moment. One moment, then go to the next moment...etc. You will get thru your pain. He was probably just being cocky. Don't listen to people who tell you to take one day at a time. When you have depression or any mental illness, you are only able to take each moment as it comes, this helps you get thru the day, and you can say to yourself, "Gosh, I just got thru another moment. I can do this."

Your shrink sounds like a sweetheart trying to be poetic and helpful in a warm hearted way, Try it and see if the little poem/saying helps! :)
