The date didn't go so well perhaps due to my complete lack of experience so now she says she just wants to be friends. I would like more than that but I don't want to push it too hard can anybody help me out?

Agree to be her friend and get some practice in to build up your confidence and then ask her out at a later date if you still feel the same way!

I think you should sit her down and have a heart to heart tell her how you really feel if she feels the same way then your all set if not and she is a real friend she will understand your feelings and if she still wants to be friend be the best friend you can be and don't bring up the relationship thing and as time passes and the two of you mature she will notice what a great guy you are and will want to have a relationship with you good luck

Cool off and try the friend thing for a while, if it goes well, it gives her a chance to know you better in a non threatening way and perhaps make her interested in seeing you as more.

Mike,

Maybe she was expecting to get boned. Maybe you were nervous and that showed.
Friendship lasts far longer than relationships, so go for the friendly route.

Hate to say it but it sounds to me like you have blown it. The only way is to accept the friendship thing and hope she changes her mind, as the others have suggested....but don't hold your breath...sorry.
