DVDs from Japan are Zone 2 and will not play in the US which is Zone 1 unless you have a mulitzone/zone free DVD. Multiformat is not the same as multizone. There are 6 Regional Zones in DVD land.

If you bought your DVD player in the US and it is fairly new, then the answer is NO. USA's and other countries DVD's are all region encoded, USA being 1 and Japan being 2. You cannot play a DVD that is from one region and play it in another region encoded player. Now, if you have a DVD player that you bought in Japan and brought it over to USA, you can play DVD's from Japan, but you still wouldn't play DVD's from US in the DVD player from Japan.

dvds from japan will not work in your dvd player. they are from a different region in the coding and just simply won't work. I hope you didn't spend any money on them because yeah you may have gotten them cheap but you can't use them
