evidently you are not an American..because if you were you would know that our Government (at least for now) has a constitution (however it is being slayed unmerciful these days) but it sates the the government shall not pass any laws to ESTABLISH A RELIGION (people confuse this into saying that it is to be a "separation of church" and state..this amendment gives people the right to practice whatever religion they choice and it also gives us "freedom of speech" however if you try to talk about religion people get offended and tell you that you have no right to speak about it...this is so unbelievable to me. But for now we still have these rights. However most Americans education has been "dumbed down" and they will pretty much think anything "they" want them to.And they call Christians "brainwashed"

The state has no place in bedrooms or in churches. The notion of a government 'blessing' any religion is highly offensive.
Yes, there are many smaller denominations. Some may be dominated by fanatic terrorists, but others are completly beneficial or innocuous and pose a threat to no one.
It would not be good to have only a few denominations recognized by the government, as this would stifle the creation of new religions, new beliefs and new ways of thinking.
To my mind, bringing government into the church would be a giant step backwards.

None! This country was founded on the basis of religious freedom. Many of the colonists who came over from Britian in the 1500-1700s came to escape from religious persecution because they did not follow the "recognized" church of England. You cannot only recognize one church. It would be discrimination of religion, which is outlawed in the Constitution. Also, the government is in no way affiliated with churches with funding or anything. And not all of the smaller denominations are ran by fanatic terrorists, it just seems like it because of the smaller denominations that are and that make headlines in papers and TV. Kind of like the saying: "One bad apple spoils the whole barrel."

I read this once and that it was such a moving article.
It said every invention was invented in the USA from Air planes to automobiles. The cotton gin and assembly lines even the bomb.
Why? It looks like by accident the other countries would have come up with something. The reason Freedom of Religion.
The other countries spent all their time and resources on making the people believe the way they felt was the right way to worship.
Squealching any free thinking person. No one was allowed to have a creative thought. They told you how to worship, how to feel about everything. How to pray, when to pray, how many times a day you have to pray. It took all the governments resources to make people worship the way the government said they should. Anyone deviateing was tortured to death.
Did it stop them? No they hid out in caves and basements and anywhere they could to worship the way they wanted.
But the government was relentless in it's persuite. Using all it's resources. That is why Bill Gates was allowed to quit college and work with radio tubes in his garage. That is where we got computers and microsoft and the internet.
Would that be allowed in a country that tells you what to believe?
No, computers and the internet and television is not allowed in some countries. Their to worried it might change your religion.
Would it be a good idea for the government to tell us how to worship? Would you like to be Islamic? Catholic? Prostant?
What about Mormon, saturday adventist? So who picks what religion?

I don't have a problem with them being "Recognized". Even if the Gov't doesn't recognize them, it will not stop them from doing exactly what they are doing now. They will still be covered under Freedom of Religion, until someone gets hurt. Unfortunately, there is really no way to know how far a group will go till they actually get to that point.

So let them be "Recognized".... then they're on paper. *wink*

NONE of them! No one should have to live by the rules of one religion just because someone thinks their religion is correct. In America we are free to choose which religion we want to follow. Myself I am an atheist and I will defend my right to be so everyday. Just like I would defend other Americans right to believe in what ever they want to as long as they don't push their beliefs on me.

You like a good debate? Well, you're not a very good debater, are you? What you are suggesting is something completely contradicting the constitution which holds up the structure of our laws, policies and the overall well being of our government. End of debate, you lost.

I don't think any--all religions should be taxed like everybody else and officiated by the people who follow them--why does the government need to be involved at all?
