I feel infinitely knowledgeable to answer this since I worked as a business manager for 6 psychologists/psychiatrists for over 6 years!
It is very stressful and you have to stay up on current drugs and treatments. They often would talk to each other and discuss issues happening. For me, just doing the dictation, speaking to patients...etc did me in! I had to leave the practice....it just was mentally and emotional exhausting and draining. After one patient committed suicide and I realized I was the very last person to speak to her alive...I was thru! It scars your soul and breaks your heart...personally I don't know how they do it day in and day out...having a nervous breakdown doesn't surprise me in the least. Plus psychiatrist's deal with the drugs as a doctor and see the worse cases...especially hard.

Psychiatrists are humans too... maybe he's been too stressed out by work, family problems, etc... A cardiologist can have a heart attack, a neurosurgeon can have a stroke, and a gynecologist can have ovarian cancer (well, the female ones can), so why can't a psychiatrist have a nervosu breakdown???

A worried breakdown many times incorporates 'stress'. this does not seem to extra wholesome the state you're describing. A gentle point of stress is present besides the indisputable fact that it appears that evidently extra that it quite is a effect of the emotionally complicated state you journey. i think of perhaps you're slightly depressed approximately the place you're at in existence and the stress arises from this. i does not say a worried breakdown nevertheless, as your typing is quite organised besides. Apathy isn't uncommon... and hence i think of you certainly could handle your subject concerns around being single. possibly you presently experience loss because of the existence-type you led... yet that replaced into constantly your selection appropriate. melancholy comes from subject concerns experienced interior the previous and it truly is extra probably to be the result for you. besides the indisputable fact that, you're actually not previous reaching your aims. you may attempt IVF, pass on a trip and meet a youthful hunk of spunk and get pregnant without telling him... you may take the subsequent maximum suitable guy that comes alongside. you nonetheless have options, its basically that factor have been given away... no longer something incorrect with that... you basically adapt... it is quite to no longer late...

Most people who work in the field of mental health already have issues that have drawn them into the career. A good practicioner should have support networks in place (clinical supervision, peer supervision, their own therapist to use as & when needed) to keep them aware when things may be getting unmanagable or them nearing burnout. It would possibly be a real healthy idea & experience for you to explore all your feelings, thoughts and fears surrounding, the person who is meant to be helping you get better falling unwell himself. Ask your GP or the Psychiatric dept for another consultant and explore!!! This is not necessarily a negative and can be a great opportunity for you to learn more about yourself.

Doctors are there worst enemies and patients.. most don't head there own advice to seek counseling and many try to tough it out. Working with people can drain and exhaust you. if they had no outlet or let their job get to them then that's why. They also could have had a major life event that put them over the edge. Many psychiatrist an psychologists see co-workers on a regular basis to keep themselves grounded and sane.
