"Formal" says it all. The fact that it is a friend's or co-worker's has no bearing on the attire.

Formal means black tie - that's the bottom line. For ladies, you're looking at an evening dress. Gloves are definitely not necessary but they add a nice touch of elegance. The dress will have to be floor length and, since this is a wedding, avoid any of the various shades of white.

Daytime? Evening? Outdoor? Indoor...Church? How formal is the wedding itself? If in a Church, the shoulders should be covered, by use of a shawl, jacket, coat, some sort of wrap. Evening wear lends itself to classic black with a little "bling". Depending on the weather and location. Formal attire is what I would call tasteful, sometimes understated this day & age.

I consider a formal attire to be a gown or a cocktail dress,But to the many modern weddings I been to it seams that a dresses dress or fancy skirt and top(dressed up with jewelery) is OK. I have also seen slacks and a very fancy top. So it all depends on How much you want to spend.,And all of them were excepted and looked good.

a nice slip dress, or strappy dress - nothing too bright, bride might feel like your showing off or sum it is her day, maybe a shaw or scarf for your shoulders if it gets chilly, i would keep it calf length as that flatters almost every one also lets you be a lil sexy but not trying to be, some strappy shoes or a classic heel, always good, also make sure if you go bra-less you use the famous breast pasties so that you dont let ya lights on for an embarrassing picture-jewelry keep it simple with a small thin necklace that falls on collar bone - beautiful feature on woman- small earings and possibly a faux large ring or your wedding ring if you are if not right hand ring represent ya woman hood girl

i'm in this spot as an invitee now. I have been given invited to a marriage for a youthful co-worker. we are a small place of work, only below 10 human beings. whether I gained my invitation by making use of own delivery (she exceeded it to me), in an unmarked envelope, it replaced into hand introduced 2 months ahead of the marriage date. So i think it replaced into well timed, properly meant, and not an afterthought. i'm nevertheless on the fence approximately definitely attending. She's the age of my babies, and whether we artwork ok together, i'm a ingredient time freelance worker. we've no dating outdoors of the place of work. we at the instant are not chummy at artwork, yet not at odds the two. i'm questioning if she rather needs me to circulate, or needs a contemporary, or only feels obliged. She only exceeded somebody else their invite purely 2 weeks ahead of mentioned RSVP date.....raised my eyebrows.

I rather be over dress at a wedding than under dress. I had people going in Jeans at my wedding and I find that so disrespectful. If it's summer and cermony take place outdoor than maybe a nice summer dress. If it's at a hall maybe something more dressie. A a nice black dress can never go wrong.

If the invitation says formal, bring it all out, dress, glitz, glamor, heels everything...........it does not matter if it is a co worker or whomever.

i would say most likely a dress, but if you want a pant suit, try pinstripe, but for a dress, depends on the season, maybe a plum color with a pattern of somesort, i would say around knee lenght with a v neck, it will look a bit more fancy
