The Amish actually attended the funeral of the man that murdered their children. They are much bigger people than I could ever think to be. They are truly forgiving.

I treated a lot of Amish in the hospital. They were the nicest people. I actually would try to make them laugh because they are so stoic and I'm such a clown.

G*d comes before anything in the Amish communities. It's easy to say, but hard for most of us to do. The fact is it takes so much effort and energy to hate and so little to forgive. You can not be expected to forget, but forgiving sets you free from the agony and efforts of hate. It's quite interesting to go to an Amish community and see how they live, take the tours, go into their homes and restaurants. What they deserve is what they want, and that is to be left alone. It is against the Amish religion to be on film and be in the spot light as the media has put them. This is not normal for them, and although we find them to be so strong in their customs and beliefs, we still intrude to let other gawk at them.
They are a superior culture and not the freaks some make them out to be.
You have to also remember that the family of the murderer is not at fault or not guilty of anything other than grieving for a loss themselves. They live in the same community and love thy neighbor.

Truly an amazing group of people in all aspects of their lives. I personally find them fascinating, I see them a lot where I'm from.
I worked a second job at a convenience store for a while and the men would come in early in the morning on their way to work and buy soda, chewing tobacco, etc. Oh well, we're not perfect but I think they come closest when it comes to practicing what they preach.

I have the privilege of knowing many Amish, as I live only minutes from an Amish community. They are true people of quality.

Absolutely! I wish we could all spend a month living as the Amish do. Maybe we would learn something about humility, simplicity, and real spirituality.

Hats off to our Amish neighbors!

Yes, we have Amish close to where I live and I have always admired their gentle and simple ways. Yes, a round of applause is very appropriate!

They truly are. People make fun of their lifestyle but in some ways we all would be much better off living more simply no matter what our religion.

From what I understand of Amish beliefs they'd prefer if we didn't make a big deal out of it. They're just sticking to the tenets of their faith; and one of those tenets is humility.
