He most definately be having a bad reaction if he did not sanitize the needle (putting a lighter to it) He could have many things wrong with him, depending on what he used for ink, he could have ink poisoning, he could have hepatitis or be experiencing symptoms of H.IV- but mostly uncommon if he was the only one to use the needle. He could be needing a tetinus shot. You really need to get him to the E.R and you should also go back again in 6-7 months to get him tested again forH.IV just to be on the safe side, as H.I.V can take that long for the virus to tag your blood cells which makes an H.I.V test positive. BEST OF LUCK...........

If the tat instrument was used even once on another person who may possibly have an infectious disease, then yes, a blood born pathogen or germ such as Hepatitis C, can be transmitted. But, any invasive (through the skin) act can transmit many problematic issues, i.e., staph, HIV. Ink poisoning may be a possibility. Hope your son will have some blood work done. Possibly anitibiotic therapy will help. His chills and fever may not even be connected w/ his new tat. Chills and fever always accompany pneumonia, for one example. E coli, also. Many possibilities. May I suggest also to NEVER use another person's toothbrush, razor, nail file, etc. I have Hepatitis C and know this for a fact.

Oh gosh! This does not sound good at all! You probably should seek medical attention. Do you know if the needle was used on anyone else? If it was he should probably be tested for HIV and Hepititis. The more immediate issue could be Tetanus, or blood poisoning. Is there a red streak coming from the tatooed area? I would get him to a doctor VERY soon!

yes you can. Any time anyone has shared a needle they can get things like aids, hepitis c(the worst ) and others diseases.
Unclean needles can make you sick even if they have not been preused. Anything you can stick in your body should be never used period even at a tatoo artist shop. These shops are not known fo rcleaninest, and many people get sick from them.Better get him to a doctor.

Get him to a doctor right away and get him tested. Tell the doctor about the needle incident. I hope he will be OK, and will never be so silly as to do anything like this again. Aids is very serious, as are a lot of other infections. Good luck.

Yes, you can get infections from using dirty needles, no matter what kind. You do have some great answers here. Some people can be really rude. My prayers go out for your son. Just please take him to the ER, so he can be checked out for sure. I do hope he does not have blood poisoning. Good luck to ya..

Was the needle disinfected with alcohol? He should see a doctor. It sounds like it could be an infection.

YES! Bad news. This is one of the ways you can get hepititis (inflammation of the liver). He needs to go to the doctor to have baseline labs done and they will instruct him when to return to screen for hepititis. Among other things, he could have some other kind of infection. I would definitely take him to the doctor.
