Any alternate route is going to add a lot of distance to your trip. If you don't want to take I-15 out of Vegas, you can take US-95 south. From there, you have a few choices:

1. take I-40 west, meeting up with I-15 again in Barstow
2. take CA-62 west, which meets up with I-10 near Palm Springs. You can bet there won't be much traffic along that route.
3. stay on 95 until it meets up with I-10 in Blythe.

Again, though, the distance these options add to the trip may offset any gains you make in time due to lighter traffic than what you'd face on I-15.
