others have already addressed something being stuck under your tooth or infections, but do you take a medication called dilantin? this is quite common in people who take dilantin. in any event you may want to schedule an appointment with your dentist and he/she can rule out for sure what the problem is and fix it to relieve the pain.

Sounds like you have the start of gingivitis. Brush at least 3 times a day and floss once a day. It's going to be uncomfortable for the first few days but the gums will go back down. P.S. If they bleed when flossing, continue to floss daily as this is another sign of gingivitis. Your gums need stimulation so when you are watching television, massage your gums. You will notice an improvement.

Hey this is normal, believe it or not. The way to get it fixed is to go to the dentist, and he will "cut" the excess tissue off. It doesn't hurt much at all. The condition is genetic, I forget what it is called.
If you leave it untreated, it will feel irritated like it does now, off and on, as it grows over your entire tooth. I'm sorry.

Hahaha @ the person above who said the Miley Cyrus comment. In all seriousness, just because hypthroidism CAN be related to gum disease and vice versa does not mean it will be the case for you. Talk to your family doctor. I would think he would refer you to a dentist if you do not already have one and have you looked at periodically to make sure this doesn't get to be a problem for you. Good luck.

The gum is being irritated by something, most likely something stuck under the gum. Have you had any popcorn lately??? If you can't find something under there with a toothpick or something, get your dentist to check it out and see what's going on.

Go to your dentist and have him look at it. If it hurts, it doesn't sound normal and needs to be seen.Infection can do that and so too can certain drugs.
