About two weeks ago, I got a sore throat. My sinuses have been a little sore, and this was followed by a cough. Seems like a long time to have a cold linger, so I am wondering if I have some allergies? How can I distinguish between a cold and an allergy?

...I live in Texas near the water and I gather that this is pollen weed season?

Awchew!!! Goodness! I suffer every year from sinus, and allergies... and as soon as I feel the onset of symptoms I begin taking my home remedies - beginning with my famous hot lemonade with honey, it's comforting any way and it makes me feel better no matter which one of the miserable symptoms I'm presenting.
It is so difficult to tell if it's a cold, allergies, flu, sinus irritation or what??? I suspect it's just as difficult for my doctors to distinguish between the symptoms as well - as one will tell me one thing and days later a different diagnosis altogether ;)

Go to About.com to read the complete article "Is it a Cold, Flu, Allergic Rhinitis, or Sinusitis?"

"Cold symptoms can last from 2 to 14 days, but two-thirds of people recover in a week. If symptoms occur often or last much longer than two weeks, they may be the result of an allergy rather than a cold."

Fever and particularly frame aches are not fairly most of the time related to allergy symptoms. And, I have allergy symptoms, and Claritin does not aid. So despite the fact that it's allergy symptoms, allergic reaction medication is not like tylenol with a purpose to as a rule paintings it doesn't matter what, one-of-a-kind sorts paintings and do not paintings for one-of-a-kind individuals.

This sounds yucky but if flem that comes up with your cough is yellow it is a cold and needs to be treated as such. If flem is clear then it is from high pollen in the air. I see a nose specialist and I treat my sinus with a saline gel spray. Always blow your nose and never swallw the flem. That will cause chest congestion. Been there, seen it, done it. Might last a couple days. I was suffering for the past 48 hours and am now feeling better. Good luck

Typically, a cold lasts for about one week. If "cold symptoms" last longer than about one week, that's usually an indicator of allergies.

Hi--Sorry you are not feeling well--Is your nose running at all?--I know this may sound alittle -'yucky'--but as I understand it--if the discharge from your nose is clear--you are dealing with an allergy--but if it is--a yellow color--that would indicate --that you are dealing with a cold--feel better!!
