If you play the stock market, then are you gambling, aren't you? Well my question is... ...What does the bible say about gambling? I want to play the market so that I may afford a small piece of land, and build a house on it. Will I be going against the bible if I do?

The Bible says we are stewards over Gods possesions. He wants us to prosper and do good with what He has given us. I would urge you to pray and ask that God help you find the right answer. But make sure that you are truly seeking His will in this. If your going to do what you want to do anyway then just go ahead. I dont think investing and gambling are totally the same.

Investing is actually a great thing. I wouldnt choose any high risk stocks, but be smart with your money. Gambling is a trap. And the money that is gained by the industry is often used poorly. And they gain a LOT of money... the lottery and all that ... its symbolic of the change found lost under the machines as compared to what the industry profits.

The Bible says, "Always bet on black!" Just kidding.

Seriously, You are asking two questions here. First, The Bible does not want us to get involved with the disenfranchisement of any people. So, in the case of lotteries as a general rule, I think a clear no has resounded.

In regards to the stock market, you are investing in a product, and I don't see it as the same thing as gambling. Check out FPU at the source listed below, and it will give a Biblical approach and understanding of money matters.

Gambling is risking money in an attempt to multiply the money .The Bible does not specifically condemn gambling, betting, or the lottery. The Bible does warns us to stay away from the love of money (1 Timothy 6:10; Hebrews 13:5). Scripture also encourages us to stay away from attempts to "get rich quick" (Proverbs 13:11; 23:5; Ecclesiastes 5:10). Gambling most definitely is focused on the love of money and undeniably tempts people with the promise of quick and easy riches.

life is a risk and playing the stock market is too. planting a garden is also a risk depending on the weather. both are not a sin. wanting to get rich quick would be a gamble like playing the lottery or going to vegas. we are to be GOoD stewards with the resources God gives us. that means to use wisdom in investing. would buying an insurance policy on your wife be gambling? know that someday she would die? is that a gamble that she might not live another year? No it's insurance that in the event she does pass that it would pay off. same with making wise financial decisions. check out Crown Financial books too.

The word "Gamble" is not found in the Bible. Therefore, we do not have a direct commandment saying we cannot do it. However, since gambling is not commanded by God, refraining from it certainly does not violate the Scriptures. Can we gamble without coveting the winnings? We must decide for ourselves whether we can do it without violating the Scriptures or our consciences.1 Timothy 6:9-10 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

There is nothing wrong with the stock market. It is excessive gambling that is wrong. By excessive it is those that are addicted to gambling and take their paychecks to gambling casinos and go home without money to pay their mortgage or rent, or other necessities. I do not personally go gambling, but I cannot judge someone who does.

well, I guess the Bible god doesn't mind gambling as he and Satan played a little game with Job. the Bible god gave Satan the power to make Job's life miserable just to see whether or not Job could be made miserable enough to curse the Bible god.

Job's first family was wiped out during the game but that's no big deal. the Bible god gave Job a new wife and family so the story ends happily.

2nd Opinions 2:13 ..."thou shalt not gamble or play the stock market..., or ask questions about gambling...". There you have it in black and white--what else could you ask for?
