What happens biologically?

Vasectomy - cutting, tying or cauterising of vas deferens.

Sperm are still produced, however, they cannot get to where they're supposed to go.

There are two viable options that can be used to have (his own biological) children.

1. have the vasectomy reversed - depends on whether the tube ends reach each other easily, to be surgically connected (re-anastimosis).

2. Have In-Vitro Fertilization, using his sperm removed directly from the testes, to fertilize the partners egg, which is then implanted

The only other ways fertilization can occur are:

1. Infidelity on the part of the woman
2. Vasectomy has somehow healed itself (rare but possible)
3. Residual sperm in vas deferens remaining after the vasectomy - should have waited a bit longer before having unprotected sex.
4. Man claimed to have had a vasectomy in order to persuade woman to have sex with him. But in fact didn't have the operation.
5. Doctor cut the wrong tube, ie not the vas deferens and the man did not have follow-up tests, so there was no way of knowing

These are the only things that come to mind.

Hope this helps

They grow back together...or they were surgically reattached. Some men change their minds after having a vasectomy and decide to have the procedure reversed. A vasectomy reversal involves the removal of any scar tissue on the vans deferens and reattaching the tubes to re-allow sperm to travel to the urethra, thus reinstating fertility. However, the procedure is not always successful. A vasectomy should be treated as a permanent form of birth control. With vasectomy reversals, 50% of men go on to father additional children.

I think it has to do with the man having sex soon after the operation when there are still viable sperm in the tubes on the "wrong" side of the tie-off.

Also, I suppose there is a remote chance that one of the one or two that still get past the surgical spot, could reach an egg, though the odds against it are astronomical.

in rare cases there is a spontaneous repair of the area, I personally know of 2 couples who conceived 10 years after the vasectomy

Their wives cheat is one reason. But for a medical reason. The tubes that were cut burned and tied can sometimes grow back together. its rare but it happens. Another reason is having unprotected sex too soon after the vas. There needs to be a six week or so time period after the surgery to get rid of all the sperm already (on deck) so to speak.

ties the vas deferens. It can be untied, it's common for fickle fathers to change their minds and get it reversed.

sperm production still continues; you just need the sperm to be inserted into the vagina
