I wonder what they dream about.. Why do they twitch their whiskers, paws and such a lot? It's cute.. But I hope they're not having nightmares.

Yes, cats (and dogs) do dream. I cannot prove this empiracally unless I go to a sleep center with my cat and get them to attach those electrodes that record brain ctivity while a subject is asleep. But how do I know that cats dream?
1) they twitch, make sucking noises, wave their paws, even meow AND they have "rapid eye movement" when they are asleep - all the things we humans do when we dream
2) this may sound outrageous to you, but I am convinved that I once joined my cat in his dream: we were running loose in a barn and stable. I cannot forget this becuase it was soooo vivid... I saw and felt things from a cat's perspective... at one point, I even looked up to check a spider in its web. When a barn dog came sniffing through an open doorway, I and my cat arched and hissed... and I suddenly woke up and found myself AND my cat sleeping beside me, hissing at the door!!!! Weird ah?

When your cat is sleeping and dreaming and if you notice the
way the tail swags back and fourth, if its just kind of going up
and down at a fast pace its a bad dream and there body will
shake alittle. If the tail is swishy sort of back and fourth
there dream is a mild one. If there paws are moving in a jerky
type way and if you see a little movement of the mouth then
there stalking in there dream. I know what you mean by cute,
there really enjoyable to watch, sleeping or awake. I can't
believe the moves they make, so limber, as well as there
expressions.

My cat Linus once fell asleep with his eyes slightly open. When he started to dream, it was really creepy and cool as hell at the same time, because I could see his eyes move back and forth during his REM sleep. When his eyes would twitch and move, he would have those little mini-movements all over his body. It was so neat to watch. I must have stayed beside him for half an hour, just marveling at how awesome he was.

I love to watch sleeping cats and to whisper to them as they dream. It's so sweet to hear them begin to purr and to see them 'smile', as cats do, yet remain in deep slumber.
My cats may watch me as I sleep too, I hope they do not waste time wondering if I am in a dream or a nightmare, for my dreams remain blissful until I can live them with you...

I'd like to think my kitties are having good dreams....of chasing mice, or something cats like to do! I think they twitch because they have an itch or spasm maybe...
