I have ADHD and OCD. I take Adderal XR for my ADHD. It works great and is time released. You need to talk to your doctor about what is best for your child. Also, I would advise you to try to limit the intake of foods and drinks with the dye Red 40 in them. It tends to hype people up anyway, but its a lot worse in people with ADHD. Do not go for sugar-free or stuff with the artificial sweetner aspartame because they can be damaging to your health, especially if you are a child. Coffee helps too, and they have supplements at health food stores such as Calms Forte and Grape Seed Extract that help naturally calm you down.

they usssually try one of the three: Adderall, Concerta, or Stratterra. I like the `Adderal XR (extended release). I am a mental health nurse for children and adolescents and I see the best results from tis. I recommend seeing an actual child Psychiatrist that will do a better job at med management. Good luck

Don't know about ED or ODD, but my brother has ADHD and has been taking medication ever since he was diagnosed. However, it was changed from Ritalin to Aderall (I think it is) a few years ago. He had many nightmares when he was on Ritalin, but with Aderall, he didn't. Then we have a good friend who lives down the street whose son had Ritalin, but they took him off of it. I think the side effects is what made most people take their kids off of it...

Stay at home and love your child. Don't send them away for the government to play day-care for you. Why is it all of a sudden every kid on the planet has ADD? I think that its a poor excuse for bad parenting. My Mom was home with me all day in the summer and beat my *** when I got into trouble. When I was at school and got in trouble, the principal beat my ***... when I got home Mom AND Dad then both beat my ***. Your child is a reflection of your parenting. Don't drug your kid because they are active and hyper and YOU can't control them. Teach them through discipline how to behave. We let Oprah and the media control everything in out lives. If the bird-flu doesn't kill us global warming will. If it's not that then a comet will hit the planet. Remember in the early '90s they said we won't be able to go outside after Y2k because the Ozone Layer will be gone. Speaking about Y2k.... weren't we all suppose to be vaporized or something? All I'm saying is doom and gloom makes headlines and sells newspapers. Before you drug your kid, know your kid.
I am confused though...you asked about ED in a child. Isn't that erectile dysfunction?

My goddaughter has ADHD and she is on Stratera...which when she takes it works wonders. If you are in a pinch....and need help and you have no medication...I have heard that giving a child something like Mt Dew helps as well. Instead of hyping them up even more....it works the opposite in kids w/ ADHD. I have personally seen this work w/ my goddaughter

your doctor will be able to determine if medications are necessary, and if so, what medication would be the best. i've seen adderall do wonderful things and i've also seen it really mess up kids. ritalin used to be the drug of choice, but i think they are shying away from that.
there are also some dietary things that can be done to help...such as limiting sugar and caffiene intake. also encouraging physical activity may help. your doctor may also have some more suggestions. if you dont get the answers you need from your doctor, consider taking your child to see a psychologist.
hope this helps.

Try a change of diet, and a natural remedy before giving your kid an amphetamine/cocaine-derived "medication."
