My rott was spaid on Thursday. I brought her home yesterday. Her stiches are open. Yesterday, I had to take her back to the vet imediatly because she was bleeding out of her soochers. They wrapped her up with some gause and bandages. By this morning she had it off. She has been bleeding out of her wound for about four hours. I have her taped up with steral gause and bandaids to hold the incision together. She hasn't lost so much blood that i am worried about that i just need to get it to stop bleeding. I don't know what else to do. I am trying to get her to lay still but she isn't tierd she has been sleeping for the past few days and just wants to walk around and play. What can I do?

There's nothing you can do for that at home. You need to take her back in. If your regular veterinarian is closed and doesn't provide after-hours services, you need to look in the phone book to find an animal emergency clinic.

While you are doing that, have someone apply firm pressure with a soft cloth to the incision site. I don't care what SHE 'wants' to do....it's your responsibility to NOT let her be walking around and playing. That's what crates are for. If that's not available, she should have been confined to a small bathroom or utility room. If you can't do that, she needs to be in a cage at the animal hospital.

Get off of the computer and go call them. NOW.

EDITED to add/stress: This is a potential life-threatening emergency. That breed is prone to a genetic clotting disorder, known as VonWillebrand's disease. Even if a dog gets all of its sutures out the day or two after a spay, they DON'T normally bleed like that.

Again...WHY do people who are not qualified to do so insist on making medical recommendations in cases like this???!! At 2 days post-op, we normally do NOT resuture incisions....for too many reasons to go into. She will NOT get septic if all she did was chew out her skin sutures...it's the sutures in the linea alba which are holding her muscle layer together, which is what keeps her abdominal organs in. She does not NECESSARILY need an E-collar (a cone.)

The ONLY person who can decide what she NEEDS is the DVM WHO EXAMINES HER!

First you need to get the bleeding stopped. Take her to your vet or an emergency clinic.
There is a product called Wound Wear that you can get for your puppy. It's sort of a vest that goes on the body and helps protect the suture site. Ask your vet if they have this or check at a pet store. I think PetsMart sells them.

Oh my dear, I know you must be in a panic. I am not a vet tech. nor a vet. but your baby needs a cone collar to put on so she will not lick herself. I am suprised you did not recieve one. Call you vet. and tell them what is happening or else go to a different vet to get a collar. it is a big plastic cone that ties around the neck to make it imossible to get at the stiches. Cold compresses till you get there with gentle pressure will help... I will be thinking of you ..

I am no vet, but you gotta take her to a the clinic right away!!! She could die if she keeps bleeding like that or get an infection!

Then make sure she gets a neck cone

Get one of those neck cones for her and keep it on at all times. Our dog got to a few of her statches and it didn't hurt her, but it made a nasty scar. Once she has that on, she won't be able to bite at it, so the gauze should stay on. You may need to get the sutures repolaced though so it hels properly. You can probably pick up a cone at an emergency vet clinic without even having to pay for an office visit. Good luck!!

If her sutures are out she needs to be resutured and an e-collar needs to be put on her to keep her from licking at them. I would contact an emergi clinic or your vet for some help.

Why didn't your idiot of a vet not put staples in there???...You need to get her to an emergency clinic soon. She could start to become septic if she has her abdomen open for much longer. The incision leads directly to her abdomen and can cause major problems. Please get her to a vet soon!
