Find out what he is passionate about and take him out. For example, if he is into football, get him to go to a game with you. This will open him up. You could also just be honest, let him know how you feel. This will save time!

Some guys will never really open up, some others might pretend to open up but not show how they really feel, others will eventually realize that (with the right girl) it's infinitely better to be open and honest. A guy might be reluctant to express his feelings because:
* By letting someone know how we feel, we make ourselves vulnerable. If they want to hurt us, they can be more precise and do more damage with the bullet. Also, we may have been hurt in the past.
* If we are feeling sad or hurt and we open up, the girl might see us as weak. And, of course, we guys always have to project a formidable, strong image. For the same reason, a guy is less likely to admit that he's feeling sick.
* By opening up we would lose that air of mystery, which we sometimes feel is necessary for the girl to remain interested.
* Once she gets to know us better, the girl may decide she doesn't like some things about us, or that we aren't quite who she thought we were. (If a guy doesn't say anything because of this, he's being dishonest, pure and simple.)
* There is also the perception that if we get too close to a girl emotionally, in the sense that we can talk about our problems, then we guys automatically fall into the so-called 'friend zone', an infinite abyss with no way out. To avoid this, a guy might intentionally create a little distance.
* There's also something else about how guys think differently that makes it harder for them to open up, even with their guy friends.
Work on those points, but very slowly, don't push him. If you show him that you care, won't judge him and can be trusted, then he might open up.

My Favorite Policy:
Be yourself, be the true honest open person you are only then they'll open up. Don't be too pushy into making them open up, then they'll feel forced. Give him space and be there when needed. Sooner or later he'll open up to you.

ask questions, make him feel connected (show interest). If he feels comfortable talking to you, then he'll open up to you.
