I did, 1 year ago and she is the best ever. So elegant. She always steals everyones' heart. Yes, they are 45 mph couch potatoes. I love couch potatoes and is she ever sweet. Easy to get along with,. low maintainence, clean (no smell) doesn't bark (unless she is telling me something) and oh to watch her run, gives me thrills. She can take off like a shot and stop on a dime. It is a myth they need alot of exercise. She only runs maybe twice per week. She does not even like to walk all that much... After all she is retired. She's been there and done that. Now it is her turn to be layin' around. She was a dream come true. I waited 20 years for her and she is every bit superb. Go Greyhounds.. Their the greatest.....I think everyone should own one. ..

Greyhounds are lovely dogs. Most dogs of these breed quickly become very loyal to their owners. Unfortunately greyhound puppies are very lanky legged, which means that by the time they reach 6 months old they are already big dogs (and all legs). Unfortunately greyhound puppies don't realise how big they are. It is like having a 6 foot, two year old human child in the house (with more legs), and they can be so clumbsy at this age- the key is to remember that it is still a puppy.

Adult greyhounds are lovely, they usually have beautiful temporaments. They are strong dogs so you would need to be strong enough to handle it. If you are thinking of adopting an ex-racer, then please remember that these dogs have been trained purely to run. Few of them have been trained to act like house dogs so a lot of work may be involved to train it to your own standard, but you could say similar about any rescued dog regardless of its breed.

If you decide to adopt a greyhound, please remember that this breed is a working dog, and many greyhounds in rescue centres may have been trained (in some degree) to that purpose (running and/or hunting). They are fast runners and efficient hunters who hunt by sight rather then scent. Unfortunately some greyhounds are not prejudice hunters. Some will just as easily hunt and kill a cat or a sheep as they would a rabbit Like with any dog, you would need to know exactly what you want from the animal before you chose one. Chosing a dog because the colour of its coat appeals to you is not often a good idea when adopting an adult rescue dog.

Finally, greyhounds have long whippy tails. When the dog is happy it will wag its tail, and if you get hit by a wagging greyhound tail it bloody hurts! The other thing about greyhound tails, because they are so thin and whippy, they are at risk of splitting the tip when they wag it against something hard, though the dog may not even notice. It may continue to wag its tail which results in blood being sprayed everywhere! Usually this heals well on its own, but once it has happened once, there is a strong chance it will happen again.

WE have a greyhound that is now ten. She was all legs when we rescued her. With lots of patience and love they are the most remarkable loving sweet kind dogs. I would get another one in a minute. The amount of love they give back is wonderful. They are so much fun to watch grow, run ,and develope. Good luck I think you'll really enjoy having one.

Although I haven't personally, there is a lady at our clinic who has rescued several of them, and they are a joy. They are all so calm and good natured. I have heard nothing but good things about rescued greyhounds. Of course, I feel that any rescued dog, no matter where it is rescued from, makes an exceptional companion. It's like they know...

Greyhounds are wonderful animals. I have met many owners of ex-racers, they are all now devoted fans of what is without doubt a lovely kind animal. Owners always mention the eyes -big and beautiful.
