I have taught grades 1 through 5 and have subbed in high school also. My training was in Early Childhood/ Kindergarten Primary and Nursery school. Most of my teaching years have been in grade 2. It's the best! They have the basics of reading and math and they are just darling. I could write a book on all you can teach this age and ways to approach each subject. Their still enthusiastic ( most of them anyway). They are impressed by everything. You can teach the love and appreciation for literacy to them and it will carry on through the grades. They love to cook, also, so incorporating cooking in your teaching is a blast. I really couldn't begin to write everything that makes this age the best.

Currently, I teach high school, grades 9 and 10. I LOVE my ninth graders because they're almost proper teens, but not quite. You can go days with them acting all grown up, and then BOOM, they surprise you by being complete babies. They're so cute and enthusiastic, and they're a little intimidated about being in the high school environment. I like them because they are disarmingly willing to share their lives with you. For an English teacher, they're a real treat.

I also teach 10th grade, but they're more grown up and more comfortable in the high school environment, which translates to being less respectful. I like them still, though, because I taught them as 9th graders and remember how much cuter they used to be ;-)

I did teach kindergarten at a year-round school for a summer and the children were adorable. I loved teaching them the basics and they were very affectionate and winning. HOWEVER, they wore me out. Teaching in general is an exhausting job, but the little ones were twice as tiring as the high schoolers. Remember, with high school students, reasoning has limited success, but the only tactics you can use with little ones are diversion or discipline! Plus with high schoolers, you can have real conversations, but with little people, you can't, exactly. This is more than made up for, however, by the fact that most kindergarteners love school and learning and aren't ashamed to show it. You sometimes look at high school kids and think, What went wrong? Why are they so miserable?? The hormones make a big difference!!

I don't know if my ramblings will have helped you any, but there you go :-). Hope they're of some use!

I have taught Kindergarten through 4th grade. For me, 2nd grade was the best because they are sweet, most of them can read and there are rarely, if ever, any kind on "accidents" for you to clean up. They also have a level of curiousity and independence which is quite rewarding.

I prefer to teach grades 11 and 12. The kids at that age aren't interested in battling for control of the classroom and are occasionally capable of abstract thought.
