Since the setting of the novel is in old England, it seems the most unusual aspect of this fact is that holographs weren't known about. It may be that electricity was available at that time, but technology hadn't invented the holograph. However, if holographs are mentioned in the book, at least the author knew about their possibility. This would make it seem that the holographs were generally known. What do you think?

It is not a holograph. It is a "holographic will" which means that it is hand written.
