Well, it's hard to say. Since he is just a baby, it could be a weird kitten game. :-) But, there is a chance that he is seeing a ghost or something similar to that. I have found cats and dogs to be very in-tune with the supernatural. My dog was terrified of an entire room in our house, a room that has given everyone who has ever entered in the creeps!

Here is a site that may help: www.theshadowlands.net It may look hokey at first, but it is run by members of, if I remember the title correctly, the South Jersey Paranormal Research Society.

Yes, I believe that animals can see things that we can't. Shouldn't think he's playing. Only other thing that I can think of is he could be affected by the weather. Is it ever really really windy when he does this. Strong wind can make cats nuts.

I had a dog that wouldn't go into the spare bedroom in an old house I lived in. When I did some research I discovered that the room was supposed to be haunted. The dog would stand by the open door staring up towards the ceiling but I couldn't get her in the room.

OK. I'll bite because I have seen this before and hope you are serious with your question. I had a cat do this. YES they can see things that you do not. That is one of the reason some people think cats are creepy and sneaky. It is also why they are seen as "familiars" meaning not just the witch thing, they sense things you cannot see. I had a cat that would not go down a hallway, after having gone down it for a year, until I removed a vase that had been recently sent from a "strange" relative.

Yes, animals can sense things we cannot, so it is possible your kitten is aware of somethings you cannot see or hear. I recently read in a used book that when cats hiss, they are pretending to be a snake (serious!) and it is how they play. The book was "The Encyclopedia of Cats." (Now I wished I had purchased it. )

I recommend you read Sylvia Browne's books, especially the one on "Animals on the Other Side." She is a world renowned psychic and can explain these things better than I. Best wishes.

When iused to live in my mums house years ago, my cat at the time used to do the same thing, the house was haunted, by an old man that had died there years ago.
There was this one time that springs to mind when i had a group of friends round watching tv, when suddenly my cat stood up arched his back and hissed loads, seconds later the lampshade on the ceiling light jumped and swang to and fro, it scared the living daylights out us.
So it may be that your cat is experiencing the same things.

Little JJ could be seeing ghosts, but my guess is that he is seeing something else or playing. My cats sit up and perk up their ears mostly when another cat is coming into the room. They seem more sensitive to other cats rather than people. Do you think there are any other cats around outside that your kitty is reacting to?

hi shorty,
cats can see most things, this is why it is shown that as far back in history one looks in all cultures cats are an integrel part of the unknow/unseen. if little jj is hissing and fluffing up he is being protective and belives the entity is not nice. i would be inclined to sprinkle some salt around and light some incense and ask "it" to leave. this should work. ps: hold little jj while doing the asking.

At the window he is probably seeing his reflexion. Kittens are a hoot. They will do their scaredy cat-tippy oe thing at anything that wiggles or startles them. Could even be a little puff of wind or a smell that is different from one a few steps back. He's just being a kitten. You are fine. Now if you really want to know if you're safe, get your kitten a puppy to play with. Together they will guard you .

I have always heard that cats sense things supernatural and that they have a psychic sense. I have only experienced that my cat seems to know hours ahead of time if a storm is arriving( he hides and won't come out). I think it is possible they can see ghosts. I believe more in spiritual things such as good/bad spirits, demons, and angels. Not to scare you or anything! I guess we will never know for sure though since we can't communicate. Just pet him and comfort him!

Cats are very sensitive to small changes in light. They can see even one photon of light, apparently. If they see a gnat or even a dustmite, it can reflect light and it's something you might never see, but they will. As far as the hissing goes, I really don't know. Could there be a mouse in the walls or something?
