They can be removed when the area in coated with novacaine. The Eye, Ears, Nose, Throat doctor will use a long skinny pair of tweezers and an implement that looks like a cuticle trimmer. After removal, the stones will be lab tested to see if you need medication. Then the area will be coated with antibiotic and you need to wait two to four hours before eating. Also, you must not drink carbonated of citric drinks during that time.

A cotton swab dipped in hydrogen peroxide applied directly on the tonsil stones will not necessarily dislodge them - it may help some sufferers of tonsilloliths while others may experience only an unpleasant gagging sensation. The use of a water pick (irrigator) to clear out the crypts of accumulated debris may also help (the lower pressure tongue-cleaner attachment is recommended). While difficult to perform due to the gag reflex, a quick brushing with a toothbrush will generally remove any tonsollolliths. A more drastic method, a tonsillectomy, is not usually indicated or recommended, but will provide permanent relief.
It is important to remember that although tonsil stones can be uncomfortable, they are rarely ever dangerous and can be seen as more of an inconvenience than anything else.
Prevention
Prevention methods include gargling with salt water or a non-alcohol, non-sugar based mouth wash.
You may notice that reducing the amount of white sugar in your diet will reduce the frequency of buildup.
Also, using the bristles of a toothbrush help dislodge the stone.

i nonetheless have my tonsils too. in case you save having tonsillitis i wager your physician will decide to take them out. there is as new technique for disposing of tonsils now this is plenty extra effective than the way it was once. the medical doctors use a laser and shrink out your tonsils so the discomfort is decreased and the healing time is plenty much less annoying on you. my daughter had her tonsils out utilising the laser technique and she or he develop into fantastic.

I don't have a real strong gag reflex and mine are pretty easy to get to so I usually push them out with my finger tips or even squeeze the gently. Sometimes I also use a q-tip to press on the tissue around the head or white part and it will dislodge it.
Good luck!
