i am black and i live in Japan. No problems about race here...all non japanese are grouped in the same category. with being said. I also visited south korea many many times, and i really like it. koreans are more vocal about their feelings than japanese. Korea is a nice place,no doubt... i ventured into resturants in back alleys , where usually tourist dont venture. i spoke not a lick in korean, but was always taken care of rather well.

the resturants were very amused of me trying their cuisine, and i ate almost whatever they gave me. i love spicy food,

so if you like spicy food, korea is the place to go out of the 2. korea has more public protesting going on than japan, these protest ranges from problems at work on salary and working conditions to anti-american protest.

But , korea has always been nice to me for the some odd 10times i visited. I live in and love japan as a second home.

So, i finally would recommend visiting BOTH!!!. you will enjoy both, trust me. the difference , diversity, and similarities are worth seeing with your own eyes.

go on girl and visit the 2 best countries that asia has to offer... if you can ....visit all of asia

Peace

Korea has a bad reputation, but really isn't a bad place. I have lived here for 2 years, and the only thing I can really say is that Korean censor themselves less than westerners do. What a Korean thinks he more than likely willsay, while a westerner is probably thinking the same thing and just not saying it. Otherwise it is a fabulous and much much cheaper place to visit than Japan. Went to Japan this summer, and easily spent almost $1000 in a few days, what would take me a up to 2 months to spend here in Korea.

I live in Korea, but love to visit Japan for a little bit of tranquility and order. That being said, I've had friends who have moved from Korea to Japan, and wish they had stayed in Korea. However, since you're just planning on visiting, not living, I think either place would be fine. I've noticed that non-Asians generate more obvious interest in Korea than in Japan (I get stared at in public here in Korea, but was virtually ignored in Japan) It's not usually malevolent interest though - just curiosity, since there aren't many non-Koreans in my neck of the woods.

everyone has a different opinion upon which place is better,as long as you were going to south korea, i think that you would be fine.
Japan is alot more expensive than what korea is.
Japanese and korean people might look the same but their cultures and society(food, atmosphere) are very different
i would try to visit both if you can.
good luck, i hope that you enjoy which ever place you choose.

Japan: many islands, very clean and orderly, Very expansive.
People are polite and good with manners,
If you'd like safety, and easy time, go to Japan.

Korea: Land with many mountains, very crowd,
Somewhat pricey but good quality goods,
people are friendly, out speaking, honer st, and wild.
If you like more adventure, excitements, go to Korea

Racism is not a problem at either country, but they both have very respective cultural, and if you show them your respect they'll take good care of you.

As a visitor, you will be welcome in both countries. You don't have to worry about Atomic bomb, race and etc . As you know both countries are very closed to each other. It won't cost you that much more to visit both country. There are travel agencies who offer tour of both countries.
I am Korean-American (Lived in Korea for whole my childhood)
so I like Korea, but I been Japan before and they are very different. You will enjoy what both countries will offer.
Have a fun.
