i recently asked a question about my depression. But just like i predicted the majority of the answers were "go see a doctor". although i appreciate the time you all take out to answer my question, seeing a doctor is simply out of the question. My parents will not allow it. and i cant get perscribed anything without their permission.
all i want is to smile again. to laugh and see myself again. i've lost my own personality in this pit of **** that i cant claw out of. every morning i wake up and the first question i ask myself is "will i be alive by the end of the night". i hate my home...it feels like an institution...but i cant get out...im not allowed, because my parents are so suspicious of me...................ive just given up trying to talk to them. please if anyone has anything that might help...it will mean more than anything to me. thank you

You did not mention how old you are. If you are in school, go immediately to see your school counselor. I wish I could talk to you because I can not imagine any child not being able to talk to their parents. You can also call 911 since you can't go anywhere and tell them that you are depressed and things are so bad that you don't know if you will be alive by the end of the night and then the police have to assist you. You will probably be taken to the hospital for an evaluation and may be advised to be admitted to an inpatient facility somewhere. I know you probably have heard horror stories about inpatient facilities but I can tell you, if you really want help, that is where you need to be. Inpatient facilities are what you make them ~ you can either work with them and reap the benefits by getting well or you can work against them and continue with the problems. Where ever you go, this will open your parents' eyes and make them realize you need help.
Best of luck to you and God bless you.

Hello,

I remember the days when I used to feel the same way. Eventually I believe it was my faith that brought me out of the dark pit my soul lived in. I still wouldn't make it without my meds though. If you are in school talk to a counselor. You need to let someone know. The counselor can help your parents understand how your feeling and what you might be going through. I never realized how much my family loved me until we went to counseling together. They only want to do what is best for you and that would be for you not to be in pain and be alive.

Remember no matter how dark it gets God is right next to you like footprints in the sand.

Even your primary doctor can treat you for depression with medication. He has no legal obligation to share with your parents what you tell him (or her). Tell your parents you're having a headache and are dizzy every day. Find an excuse to go to any doctor, and share confidential information with that doctor. Call the doctor's office in advance of your visit and tell the nurse or the doctor that you want them to suggest that your parents wait outside while you are being examined, because you have private mater to share with your doctor, and you don't want your parents to suspect anything. Or talk to your school counselor. Your depression is making you think this is insurmountable, honey. It is not. Reach out and don't worry about making your parents look bad.

It is sad to hear that your parents are not willing to hear you or help you. If there is a counselor at school you could talk to try that. Call a crisis intervention center and ask for advice. Type in teen depression help and do a search. There are numerous sites that you can look at for encouragement and help. Don't give up. I hope you have a friend that you can confide in. That's helpful too.

I agree with the chemical dependency counselor. You need to see somebody. A school counselor is fine. I think that parents can refuse treatment for children under age 18--unless overridden by a court. but honey, it sounds like you really need to have some medication. so after you talk to your counselor--if your parents still don't understand, you may want to tell them about how your parents are refusing treatment for you.

no one can make you not go. you can decide for yourself. there are some doctors out there who take a sliding scale so you are able to afford seeing one. if you need a therapist then you need one. don't let your parents run your world. they don't know everything and if you want the help then i think you should get it.

Go immediately to your school counselor and ask for advice. I certainly cannot understand your parents' feelings!!!!! There is help and your school counselor (if you are totally honest with her) is your very first step....if you don't get help there, please email me or ask the question again with even more urgency...
