My always hangs around me, rather than my spouse or kid and sleeps on me (or next to me) at night & even during the day. I say it's because they're too rough w/him. Could it be something else? (Scent?) I've never been a "cat" person and never "sucked-up" to him (he's a 3-y.o., non-neutered male). Maybe it's 'cos I'm usually the one who feeds him? I'm stumped!

Good answers, people! I have accepted the fact that "Mr.Kitty" likes me best, for whatever reason. I wouldn't get rid of him for the world! Also, he's a nice, little, fuzzy 'heating pad" on cold nights! (no, I don't mean anything kinky by that!). Also, I agree w/those who said that cats often like those who DON'T suck up. I can't stand suck-ups either! lol

Because he has chosen you as his caretaker. They chose, not you. Oh, giving him food helps, of course.

It is because you are the feeder. However, a 3 year old not neutered male. Is it an indoor cat? Outdoor Cat? If it's an indoor cat and it hasn't yet, it will start stinking up your house. If he is an out door cat, he will be creating litters of kittens that may or may not be in an environment to be cared for. GET HIM FIXED!!!

I really don't know why they chose one person over the other but I can tell you something I always had cats in my life my husband never had a pet in his life I got a small cat for me and let me tell you I did everything possible for that cat to love me over my husband and he is now 9 years old and he wont even look at me if my husband is in the same room the only way he will come to me is when my husband leaves for the field(military)then he don't have a choice he has to deal with me ....

His character is probably close to yours.....he probably doesn't want to be sucked up too, so you guys are a great match.....I agree with the one who said cats choose, not us....all my cats have been adopted...one just walked right in and never left.....that was a year ago. They are very independant. Oh, and the whole feeding thing........definitly a plus!

Being close with the person who feeds him is very important to a cat and obviously he sees you as the #1 person in the household. He wants to be your #1 cat buddy.

Cats are like people they like some better than other. Another reason could be if you are a woman the male cat is more drawn to you.

My male cat also prefers me over my husband, but I think it's because I feed him, pet him, generally meet his physical and emotional needs. Sounds the same for you!

The cat is showing affection for you, because you take care of his needs. He's showing you his gratitude in the only ways he can. You should open your heart to him, cats are good friends and companions if you learn to understand them.

hi nation,
cats will hang around certain people for numerous reasons,
1. food: your the main person who feeds them
2. scent: your the opposite sex and they either want to mother or protect
3. healing: your hurting or ill somewhere

Yeah it could be because you feed him
Once you feed a cat they love you forever and never leave.

Having two cats myself, I can identify with this. Mostly my opinion would be that he prefers you because maybe you treat him the best of your whole family, and you feed him and take care of him.
