I come to a point in running on the treadmill where I can't even think straight, and just feel like dropping to the ground. Then, at others time I will be watching TV on the treadmill and I perform almost twice as well. I have some thing coming up (military) that I won't obviously be able to watch TV when running. Anyone else have this problem? I think it's sort of similiar to running with music, and that person takes the music off and they are horrible at running. Are there any ways to prevent this? Maybe some tricks or something. Or do I just have to keep pushing myself beyond what feels like exercise?

Agreed, being able to focus on something other then the actual excercise is what makes it seem to go by faster (and easier),
But they're also learning that the sound of the TV or music also helps to stimulate the brain as much as the excercise does.
So, if the sound gets you moving then keep up the pace!

you're not thinking about the running..

It's easier to run (at least for me) outside where you have scenery. With a treadmill you're either staring at a wall or a TV. The TV makes it all go much quicker.

I'd say if you can do, it go for it - most people have trouble chewing gum and walking. Sounds like you have a lot on your mind but also have the ability to do and concentrate on different things all at the same time. Good for you. You've got stamina.

its a good distraction...my feeling is whatever works...I read on the bike, and listen to music on the elliptical...and talk while teaching water aerobics...it all helps pass the time...as for the military thing..time to hit that replay button in your head and "watch" your favorite program...pushing beyond what is exercise?? From my military friends..yup..its all beyond exercise with the military..good luck
