Sheesh, call me old-fashioned or what, but I don't think anyone should date until at least age 14 ... and then only in groups; no boy/girlfriend dating until 16, better yet 17.

Hanging around together in groups without a chaperone is great depending on where, and as I said not until at least 14 .. and I think THAT is a bit young.....

Yes kids are more sophisticated today ... but all that means is they have more information, and more knowledge, NOT the emotional and mental maturity to deal with it!

The way I see it, everybody should have friends of all ages and both male and female - that is as it should be.

The purpose of "dating" is to meet lots of people of the opposite sex and meet and get to know the one that you would like to spend the rest of your life with.

I would say 14 - 15 for dating in groups, 16+ for dating one on one.

Dating at 9 years old is ridiculous and could hurry a young girl into social situations that she would not be ready for. Maybe her mother could allow her to have friends over (boys and girls) to watch a movie and have pizza or something like that - under supervision of course.

I was 15 when I started dating - too young I think. But then I met my husband when I was 16 and had 20 wonderful years! ( I should mention that we were not divorced, he died)
