I am not willing to risk life and limb trying to give our kitties a bath..... I can just imagine the screams! (Mine!)
Glad that your kitties are more understanding.

There is no need to immerse a kitty in water. Try this towel method.
Get together two bath towels and prepare to keep one dry until kitty's bath is over.
Prepare the other by completely soaking in warmish soapy water (like the temp for a human baby or cooler).
Get kitty and yourself confined in an area like the bathroom then take the large wet soapy towel and grasp kitty - the weight of the towel will give you a tool of control so be prepared to use it gently.
Rub kitty thoroughly with the sloshy towel then let him go. Rinse the towel and rub kitty thoroughly again to remove soap. I suppose you could prepare a 3rd towel in advance to use for the rinse.
Once you're done use the dry towel to cuddle kitty to dryness.
Most veteran cat owners agree there is little need for a dunking or even a towel bath. Some overweight, elderly, sickly, newly found/lost kittens, etc. do need help sometimes.
Best wishes,
pup

A healthy cat should keep itself clean; while a bath won't really hurt a cat, it does wash away oils from the skin, as well as the disinfectant that's found naturally in a cat's saliva. I suggest that instead of bathing your cat to cut down shedding, you brush his coat regularly; they enjoy it, and it's better for their coat in the long run.

It won't hurt them, although most don't really like it......But I agree, they do look so nice! I haven't bathed my current kitties because they are indoor girls, but I used to bathe my outside guys. They used to seem mad at me for a while, but got over it. If I bathed my long hair girl that I have now she would probably never forgive me. My other girl is an immaculate cleaner....she has kittens now an even obsessively cleans them. She is so beautiful and shiney, and I don't do one thing for her. She has shorter hair though.

Before my cat died I gave her a bath when she needed it -- she was too old to take care of her fur, and she seemed to enjoy the bath.
I guess those are the two reasons -- the cat needs it or the cat doesn't mind. Otherwise, no need.

i did when my cats were smaller, but now i dont feel like losing an arm!!!lol
a little info for people who want to bath there cats-you can buy cat masks and cat bags-they are made of a canvas like material and it can make you life much easier when bathing your cats, clipping there nails and its also handy when you take your cats to the vet and they need to perform a procedure that might make your kitty angry!!they are safe and the cats will only be a little mad!!!

I used to give my male a bath every month or so because his dander really got my allergies going. But I've since gotten used to him, so we don't really bother with the baths. I wouldn't mind giving him one now (it's been a while since his last one), but we no longer have a detachable shower head.....once we get one, I might consider it. It's MUCH easier than trying to rinse with a cup.
