Start out with a brisk walk first. Do this for a couple of days and then on day three start out at a walk and then just start jogging. Set up a tolerable pace. DON'T stop when you feel like it, PUSH until you absolutely can't run another inch, then you continue on at a brisk pace again until you are able to begin your jogging. Try to do 1 mile your first time out and then build from there everyday. The weight will really come off then! This is what the military call a "run walk" and it's used for physical endurance tests.

Begin with jog/walking. Walk 5 to 10 minutes, then jog 30 seconds to one minute. Walk 5 to 10 minutes, then keep increasing 30 seconds between jog/walk intervals. The first time out you may want to jog only a total of 5 minutes; but each time out increase your jog time by at least a minute. After a period of a few weeks you will be jogging more than walking.

Start walking 20 minutes in a speed that you can manage. If you can do that every other day for a couple of weeks, you should get in enough shape to start jogging. Then combine walking/jogging with walking as the majority part. Increase the fraction of jogging as you get in better shape.
If you don't have time to walk/job every other day, take 30 minutes twice a week.

First and foremost...you need good shoes!! Jogging with extra weight can put a lot of pressure on your feet. Your feet are delicate with lots of small bones, and tissue that can be injured. If you have had any foot problems, see a podiatrist and get custom made inserts.
Then, start walking. Walk until you can walk a brisk mile or two. Then start jogging for part of the walk. At first, .5 mile, and then 1 mile and then 2 miles.

I agree with the first few answers. Walking is the best method to start. Jogging - especially for people who have doen it for years - is murder on the knees, especially if you are carrying extra weight.
My recommendation: Lift weights to build lean body mass (LBM). LBM (muscle) burns calories even when you are resting.
Second, cut down on your portion sizes. 100 less calories per day translates to about a pound every two weeks. It will take a while to - literally - see results, but underneath it all, you are doing everything right.
Once you feel a little lighter, start a light jogging routine and gradually build up to two or three miles per day.

Instead of starting at a run, everyone has to learn to walk. So start there, seriously. Start taking walks. Short at first, then longer, and the next thing you know you'll be ready for a short jog. Then it all escalates from there. A 26 mile marathon? Well, all things in their time... I bought a treadmill but you can just start taking trips around your block or down the road. Best of luck in your quest for fitness.

Start by walking every day. Then gradually increase the distance and speed. Then go into jogging every day and gradually increase the distance and speed. The key is consistency. In a few years you will have 5% body fat and be signed up for a marathon.

When you start, jog for a minute and walk for 5. Do this for an hour. Slowly, increase by adding a little more jogging and a little less walking. Go for an hour though to get maximum cardio results which will increase your metabolism.

TRy walking first, then gradually increase the pace and distance. This will give your body time to adjust to the new exersice and your lungs and muscles to strengthen before putting too much strain on them. If you dont have a place to walk an olipitical walking machine is good and easily fits into an apartment or garage or livingroom even. You can walk and watch your favorite cooking shows. HO HO HO
