I am looking at going to Thailand next year but I have two young children will be aged 3 and 1 and a half when we go, I was just wondering if it is family orientated out there? Are there things to do places to go with children?
Thanks

Absolutely it is! Try areas like Hua Hin or Cha Am, Koh Samui or certain parts of Phuket. But areas of the country can be quite seedy. Whatever anyone says, Pattaya is not suitable for children. Not only is the beach dodgy, more importantly, the sex trade is really booming. Areas of Phuket can be like that too, so make enquiries first. But don't let that put you off - it's a beautiful country and you can get some fantastic hotels with great facilities for families for a lot less than you'd pay in Europe or America.

Thailand is a great place for anyone. Althought 3 and 1 might be a little too young to remember what they see and do but they will still have a great time there. The kids will have a really good time in Magic land or Safari World both within easy reach from bangkok. Shopping for toys etc is great from JJ Market (weekend Market) or the famous MBK shopping complex. If you are going to Chiang Mai you can try Elephant trekking just remember to bring lots of insects repellant.

Try going either at the end or early part of the year as it is much cooler. The most important thing is to remember to take only bottled water only - the water from the taps are not safe to drink. So if you are making formular milk etc for the kids remember to bring a thermoflask and boil the water (bottled) in the hotel before leaving on your tours each day.

Have a great time.

Thailand has everything for everyone, depends on your interests and how much time you got. Eating, shopping, entertainment or just to laze around on the beach. With your 2 young children - stop at Bangkok. From there, Hua Hin or Cha Am for peace and quiet, and the beaches. Theme parks like Dream World and Safari will be great for the kids. Elephant trekking will be an experience, so is the Floating Market. And there's shopping at all these places (for you and the folks back home). Enjoy :-)

No problems whatsoever - my 2 kids aged 9 & 11 were born in Manila, Philippines, and we moved here to Bangkok 6 years ago when they were 3 & 5. Prior to that I lived in Hong Kong. Both children go to school here and speak great Thai (as well as English and Tagalog). They have travelled the region, been exposed to many cultures and histories, and are truly "educated" and not only in the traditional sense.

By the way, I am English, my wife is Filipino, and the kids are British passport holders but more Asian looking than anything else.

There are activities galore all around Thailand that kids and families can enjoy aside from beaches and swimming pools. The list is endless.

Contrary to what many appear to be saying about the sex trade, it is as easy to avoid in Bangkok, Pattaya or Phuket as it is in London, Manchester, Bristol, or any other big city. It is there of course, but easy to sidestep - and you know what? Its as big a part of Thai culture as temples and not the sleazy "Soho" kind of image that most people with a Victorian hangover percieve - not only in Bangkok, but in every city, town and village across Thailand. has been for hundreds of years, nothing whatsoever to do with tourism or the Vietnam War.

So, come on over, bring the kids and be prepared to have a great time.

Thailand is a great place and no where better to get your children started on getting a bit of culture. Dont go too far off the beaten track though coz youll find yourself in the middle of no where with nothing to do. Nightmare. Bangkok, the islands, chaing mai, anywhere big is good. Dont travel by train though coz its hot and sweaty if you have kids with you. Taxis are much better than buses. They have air con and they are a lot quicker and less cramped. Flying internally is dirt cheap. 2000 baht from the very north to the south islands. About 30 or 35 quid. Take them to stroke some tigers, take them on boat trips up the river, go shopping, cinemas, karoke bars (not actually bars but in n arcade with bowling alleys and ski slopes etc). You'll have a great time. Go on the internet and buy one of the travellers books which will have evry single place and tourist attraction you can think of. And for the kids, they even have mac donalds!

Don't listen to the negative answers IE Matt w ,he and the others have probably not been here , i have travelled all over Thailand and currently live here , with the exception of Pattaya and certain parts of Bangkok the sex industry is quite low key and its perfectly safe for couples with children or not to drink in bars (with girls ) in fact you will find them very friendly towards you and your children , i personally do not have kids so cannot help you too much on this try looking at the t a t web site (Tourism authority of Thailand ) this might give you some idea as to whats available here for kids

Hi, Thailand is great for family actually. Truth is, it is the visitors who made it bad and sound bad. Tha Thais themselves treasure family time and you find them going out in droves and with extended family during holiday season. So, you do find many resorts that are accessible to the family, even with young ones.

Bangkok is the usual arrival point and guess will likely be yours too. Over in Bangkok, there are a number of sites and theme parks you can visit and tours for family. First off, I will include a river tour and/or cruise for family. This can be a half day river tour or a slow cruise with meals onboard too. Next will be visit to the Grand Palace and Emerald Buddha Temple. They are just next to each other. Coupled to this visit is a tour to Vimanek Mansion, residence of King Rama V who opened Thailand to the west long ago. There are elephant and snake show, Dusit Zoo, Safari World, Siam Water Park, Bangkok Doll Museum, Dream World and Siam Underwater World.

Out of Bangkok towards Pattaya, you can find Pattaya Aquarium, Mini Siam, Nong Nooch Tropical Garden and Cultural and Elephant Show, Pattaya Romance of the 3 Kingdoms Park, Butterfly Park, Sriracha Tiger Farm etc.

In other places like Phuket, there are also theme parks like Fantasea Park, Seashell Museum, Butterfly Park, Orchid Park etc.

In other provinces, you actually get to be very close to nature, with nature treks and hilltribes visit in Tak, Mae Hong Son, c
Chiangmai, Chiangrai, etc.

You do get some fine shopping in Bangkok, especially at Mahboon Khrong (MBK) Center which will delight any kids. Likewise clothes in the Pratunam Wholesale Centre. The other will be the Chatuchak Weekend Market and Suan Lum Night Bazaar. Plenty to browse for the whole family.

On the whole, it can be quite cheap for the whole family there.

I was born in ChiangMai but moved to phuket when i was small before moving to england when i was 8 so ive got quite a good idea about what its like ot be a child in thailand, in phuket there are great things for children to do, Phuket Zoo is great fun and the beaches host many many hours of childhood fun, if you are staying in an area where there are lots of Thai children they will accept you children as their friends. Phuket FantaSea which is like a show is amazing and great fun for children, Khao Phra Thaeo wildlife part is great fun and it has lots of animals that are native to thailand and is the only pure rainforest left on the island. Dino park mini golf is also really fun for children!!!
Phuket is the best place to go with children other places are just shopping really,
The sex trade is raely an issue for tourists unless you are plaaning on clubbing every night on Koh Samui and gettin so drunk you have no idea whats happening to you, tourists rarely see that side of thailand if they travel to big cities such as phuket. Take it from me after living there for 8 years growing up, its not an issue unless your previously involved or are planning to get drunk every and make yourself vunerable.
Good luck on you holiday its a great place to go, have fun =)

Pattaya is a sailor's dream. Unless you're trying to steer your young ones that way, I'd steer clear of it and parts of Bangkok. Phuket is beautiful, but I haven't any idea how far along the cleanup efforts have come since the tsunami. I really wouldn't recommend going there at all for a while, since the military has effectively taken over the country at the King's blessing. They say it's business as usual, but you really don't know until you're there, do you? If you're intent on the beach/ tropical idea, I'd recommend a Pacific Island instead of the iffy situation in Thailand right now. You have those kids to worry about.
