Anyone know about Pine Barrens, NJ? If so, do you know why the soil is acidic

Any area under a Coniferous or Evergreen forest ecosystem will have acidic pH. This is due to the makeup of the plants leaves or needles in pines. As the leaves break down on the soil acid is released into the soil causing it to become more acidic. It a completely natural process.
