Dali was an extremely strange presence, a cross between Boris Karloff (large cape w/hat) and Liberace. Other than his odd art he was famous for hanging out with other famous people. It appeared to me that he was invited out by the intelligencia and probably never had to pay for anything in his life. He was one of the few revered artists who enjoyed wealth during his liftime. Andy Warhol seemed to have pretty much the same life of being well known and invited everywhere. It's like their art defined their personalities and I suspect that prior to their art finding a huge audience they didn't have much in the way of a personality. They both carried themselves as if they were works of art and in the performance sense they were.
