I believe that life has no purpose. As a result of natural selection, we only pursue whatever releases endorphins in our body. We are servants to our own wants and needs. Even when we are serving others, we are only serving our own sympathy. Life is a vice. Religion, art, education, politics, sex, drugs...everything we create is just masturbation of the mind and body. These things do not elevate man above animals...man only has bigger, more complex levels of satisfaction and serotonin levels. All the truth in the world adds up to one big lie.

[lugil], please go on about my ignorance. I'd like to hear what you have to say. Never had formal education in any of those subjects except for one sociology class.

[mike g], I bet you're still after those chemicals though, or else you're serving your own meekness.

[@ngela], and what's so meaningful about your life? You have kids...you're getting high off compassion. You have a career...you're getting high off ego. You must have a lot of toys to play to think your life will make a difference in the universe.

Nihilism. Depressing and yet, oddly compelling. I completely agree that humans do not hold any special position over animals. But it's not just a case of us having more complexity. We have a moral code, we're able to reason, we can learn complex matters etc. However, life is precious, and whether it's a dog's, an insect's or a human's, nothing gives us the right to hold one as being superior to the other.

Your question is; what are these beliefs called?

the answer is selfserving justification for doing waht you like even though you feel/sense that it may be wrong but you are too lazy/week to stand up to yourself and admidt that you are not in control.

Sorry for how harsh that sounds. Very little in my life produces the chemical reactions you mention. In fact most of my life produces fatigue, aches and the like. I d oit not because it will gain me anything but because it is what I know is right.

Not all live in the world you see and describe. Try viewing the world from a different perspective you will be amazed as to what you see.

You believe a Lie!

God loves you and has a purpose for your life. He has "plans to prosper you and not to harm you" He loves you so much that He gave His only Son as a sacrifice so that you may experience the pure joy of a very real relationship with Him.

Joh 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (KJV)

Joh 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (KJV)

Mat 7:7
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: (KJV)

www.beliefnet.com has a quiz you can take which will tell you.

My opinion, you are living in darkness, and that's the fruit of it. You're living very close to the animals, if that's where you want to be. It's not the only place to be. There are many worldviews. Just because you're there doesn't mean its all true, just how you're seeing it.

Well, it is a better belief than most religions offer. But, I think you must greatly expand upon your theory to have any relevance. I agree to the point that we are driven to pleasure ourselves through material possesions, drugs, food, anything that makes our chemicals in our brains and bodies respond the way we like them to. But still, you need to expand the thesis.

Existentialism -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Existentialism
Although existentialism is usually a bit more optimistic than what you're saying.

...So there's the answer. Or were you looking for some sort of philisophical debate/ argument? There are internet forums for that.

Edit: Hmm...maybe Nihilism is closer -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nihillism Aren't labels fun?

Somebody hurt you bad, I bet, and you don't know how to recover. I would like to believe you are not beyond hope. Right now to you every thing to you is a drudge. Why not read stories about people who have gone beyond where you have stopped. One such webvsite is as follows http://www.josh.org/pr/bio/index.asp

Well, you are just infected with ignorance. Your words only show that your knowledge about being is very limited. Weren't you taught philosophy at school? Or sociology? Or religious studies?
