Right now my dog is outside, because I'm trying to get Coco to get used to going potty outside. She is a 10 month old dachshund, and she still isn't potty trained. I have heard that crate training works, but my dad think it's mean. I think it's OK sometimes, but the crate is too big anyway. I don't want Coco to pee on one side and sleep on the other. I also don't want her to start being afraid of going in the crate if I put her in there for a long time. I'm trying not to buy a divider, unless I really have to.

crates are not inhumane.....after awhile the dog will call it home

as soon as you notice coco getting antsy, let her outside then reward her with a treat when she does her stuff and gets back in her cage.......never put her in the cage as a punishment......that will only do harm to your training

Good Luck

First, the crate is not that bad, we have a 5 yr old dog that had the crate since he was a puppy and now he goes in there to sleep when he has free roam of the whole house. I have something that works great with young puppies, not sure how well it will work with a 10 month old. Use the crate when nobody is home. When someone is home, you need to pay attention when the dog is laying down and sleeping. As soon as the dog wakes up, you take it outside and stay out there with it until it does it's business. After it's done, you reward the dog with loving attention. Then you allow the dog back in if that's what it wants. Just make it a habit to take the dog out immediately when it wakes up. Pretty soon the dog will do it on it's own. Like I said, this works great with very young puppies but not sure about 10 months old. Give it a shot for a few weeks. Also, anytime you get home and let the dog out of the crate, you take it outside right away. Good luck!

My cat used to go to the washroom in the house instead of the litter box. all u have to do is get mad at her if she goes in the house.... but not 4 too long, just 4 a few seconds! When she does go outside for once, congradulate her and maybe give her a few treats!
