I have a 25'' philips magnavox TV. When you turn it on, it shuts itself off immediately. I dont think its the on/off button because it shuts off using the remote as well as the button. Any suggestions what to look for? Thanks.

Its anybodies guess but since its a Philips then dry soldered joints in the power supply or line amp circuits are a distinct possibility. Cheers Pete

May be an automatic shut down due to a power supply problem.

It can very well be the switch, which can be making intermittent contact, and then breaking contact.
