I work my butt off more so than most of the employees yet some people in my family or others think I have had everything given to me the last 20 plus years. They say things like....Must be nice...or You're so lucky....or You have it made....

I know it shouldn't bother me because I know I am worthy of the money I earn and have earned. BUT, It still drives me mad! Any suggestions on what to come back with?

Nothing you say will change the minds of these people, or stop the comments. They're jealous of you, and you can't make them magically not be. Anything you say will just prolong the conversation.

What you can do is focus on your sense of accomplishment and pride in your work, and enjoy what you've earned. You can also include people in your life who "get" you and appreciate you. The best way to keep those little digs from getting to you is to make such a great life for yourself that there's no room in it for the idle comments of jealous people.

Plus, let's face it, sometimes people feel the need to say something, so they say something... stupid. They don't "mean" it in any lasting sense. Also, sometimes people who aren't happy with their choices want to believe that they're just "unlucky," because if your success is due to being "lucky," then they can't expect to match it with simple hard work, right? Viewing you as "lucky" keeps them from examining their own choices.

It's sad, really - but what would be sadder still would be for you not to enjoy what you've worked so hard to achieve because of the petty digs of jealous people. Good luck!

I would just let them know that you have it pretty hard because you have to live up to the expectations of your family. Most people know that family gets it worse than anybody else. Tell them that if you are so lucky, perhaps they should take your next shift. Then they'll know exactly what unlucky is.

Just take it in your stride-people are programmed to talk like that-it's like gossip and car parts, we're just all genetically predisposed, dude! Seriously, you won't-can't-change that, no matter how hard you work or protest. Your actions will speak for themselves in the end. Accept this as a failing on their part that you cannot affect, and move on.

Why do you care what other people think? They aren't paying your bills.

Ignore them...they will never stop "pourin' Hate-orade" on you no matter what comebacks you blast at them.

Do what you do, love God, love your family....let life, time and God deal with the rest.

rather you work in a family business or not...shouldnt be of their concern...and you don't have to explain a damn thing to nobody...maybe their jealous.... because most ppl like to see you do bad anyway...so thats more of their problem...just wishing something would go bad....so at least in their eyes you don't have it good anymore...to hell with them...keep workin at your family business....don't let it bother you...that's their problem not yours!!!
