Things you need to know first, before you start.
Pups normally arrive to their new home when they are between 8-10 weeks of age. Unfortunately they do not have full bladder control at this age, it is physically impossible for your pup to hold onto it. When he has to go, he will go. How long do I wait then you ask? Well you don't, you start to teach as soon as pup arrives, but you don't expect too much, or the impossible.
By 12 weeks his body has matured and bladder control finally kicks in. Even so, the max amount of time he can hold it for will be between 2-4 hours.
1. Pick a spot outside where you intend for pup to go.
2. Every time you take pup out use the same spot.
3. Take pup out as often as every hour for the first week.
4. Take pup out after every feed, drink, exercise, play time.
Even if pup doesn't go, that's fine, just wait with pup for a few minutes, if you get a result then give heaps and heaps of praise.
Be consistant, don't give up and never rub pups nose in his excrements if he does do it inside, all you will do is confuse the pup and possibly turn him against you.

Pups cannot consciously control their bowels or bladder until they are at least 4 months old. This doens't mean you shouldn't START showing your pup the proper place to go potty now, but it does mean that the pup may have accidents until it's able to better control its bodily functions.
Remember that pups have to potty about 10-15 minutes after they eat, when they first get up in the morning, and when they awake from naps. Use these opportune moments to take you puppy outside for potty. Whenever it goes outside, make sure to praise it a lot for being a good dog and give it a lot of attention.

Pads appear like a well answer, however absolutely they may be able to confuse a puppy. One second you are praising him for peeing within, and the following you are scolding him...No marvel it's not getting by way of! Throw them away. Get rid of the pads and teach him correctly. Watch him like a hawk. As the times cross on you'll be able to recognize the indicators that he demands to pee; pacing, circling, sniffing the bottom... When you detect those indicators, select him up and take him external. Wait with him. Don't return within, or your puppy will comply with. If he does not do something, take him in, wait a couple of mins after which again out once more. Whenever he does anything external present him. If he begins peeing within the residence, interrupt with a "No!!" or "Ah-Ah!" and lead him external. Basically repeat the stairs above. Some suggestions: -Don't yell at your puppy if he is going within. He's handiest eight weeks historic, and has minimum bladder manage -Use non-organic detergent to scrub up after him. -Never use any "historic" approaches like rubbing his nostril in it. It would possibly not paintings. It does not inform him what you are anticipating of him. -Remember to present a way at any time when he pees external. It generally is a deal with, a bit sport or only a very over-dramatised "Good boy!". Don't simply forget about him and count on him to select it up. -Be sufferer! Keep up with the educational, hold supervising, and he will get there. It is also a couple of weeks but because of his age, however he's going to get there.

Take your puppy outside OFTEN. Especially when you see him sniffing, he is usually trying to find a place 'to go'. Don't punish him if he has an accident, putting his nose in it will only confuse him. When you take him out and he uses the bathroom, praise him. It is not necessary to give treats, sometimes that's OK, but positive attention is alto better. Rub his head and tell him hes a good boy or girl if that's the case. He /she will see that they are pleasing you, you are pleasing him/her with the positive attention, and it usually works itself out from there. Good luck!

consistency... when you get up, the puppy goes first, then praise praise praise...
when you are just sitting and the puppy gets down and starts to wander, take it outside. again, Praise....
you have to be on top of it or they get confused.
good luck
