when it's obvious that this is a world wide problem with no visable end in sight?

To those on here who are giving answers along the lines of "cos it's mostly gays that have it", please do some reading and search out the facts. The majority of people with HIV/AIDS in the world are not gay and they are not intravenous drug users, they are straight men and women. I asked this question to make people think and to expose ignorance.

Not everybody has been given the facts. I think that some people are
really stupid and should be given a good kick up the backside. I have some guy friends and they don't have AIDS or HIV they are happy and don't cheat, in fact I think they have it better than most. I mean who is to say the person stood next you isn't a carrier, they could be and you could have a quickie and get AIDS (oh but you are not guy) so you can't have AIDS come on people get a backbone get the facts and lay off guy people they are human to.

I can answer that question in 2 words...IGNORANCE, HOMOPHOBIA. I have a very good male friend and he just told me the other day, "I had a girl I met last night at a bar give me oral sex(not exactly the words he used but this is public viewing so...) I asked him if he used a condom...his answer,"No, why, I cant get hiv or aidsfrom a b**w job". This is why we have such high #'s of this disease...ignorance!

Its not only gays that get hiv/aids. drug users who share needles can get it.
its all over the world & people need to stop treating it as a 'gay' thing

Because at least in Western countries it was originally largely seen in gay men, and they are still the most vociferous of the different groups of sufferers.

The AIDS epidemic in sub-Saharan Africa is an interesting phenomenon. It isn't absolutely certain that it is actually AIDS as we know it in the West and it isn't certain why it appears to be prevalent in their heterosexual population. BTW it is disingenuous to talk about the "explosion" in the numbers of heterosexuals with AIDS in the UK as these numbers are virtually entirely due to new immigrants. Unless one indulges in unprotected sex with high risk individuals, heterosexual transmission is most exceedingly uncommon.

Actually there's a little publicised fact about the sexual transmission of AIDS that I'm glad most people don't seem to be aware of. What we should all be most aware of though is don't engage in unprotected anal intercourse with people you don't know about.

I agree, it's ignorance. And as for the comments that it's a predominantly gay disease, it may have been in the early days, but HIV saw it's largest population increase in the heterosexual community in the UK last year!

Food for thought people - always be careful!!!

I understood that HIV and AIDs originated in the gay community.

Most people are still ignorant about AIDS/HIV and still have unprotected sex with anybody and everybody!

Well, gays are far more promiscuous than any other group. They are also the ones that started the problem. On top of that, I wonder if it is not a judgment for mocking God?
