Being from Southern California, I was expecting to be treated the way we've always been told NY'ers were...they're supposedly rude. What a bunch of crap.
Nothing could be further from the truth. I love NY, I love the people, the food, the sites and the bullsh!t. I have yet to meet anyone who fits the stereotypical rude NY'er.

I find the people in NYC to be warmer than the native Bostonians were in Boston, & I'm a native Bostonian. NYers have their guard up when they don't know you, 'cause they deal with a lot of needy, strange folks who come to NYC, but once they are at ease with you, once they sense you are no threat & are ok, then they'll help you as much as they can & will tell you the best kept secrets on how to live here.

Hell no! Smetimes we are in a hurry to get somewhere because we walk a lot. Mostly you'll find they to be the nices most helpful people if they have the time. Funny, I found the people in London pretty rude and cold.

No, we are not rude, we are just in a rush, so sometimes we don't have time to make small talk, but we are always willing to help each other out in many ways. We were voted most polite city in the world this year.

there are rude NYers... but they are not the majority.
There are people with chips on their shoulders about NY - everything NY is bad to them. The rudest people I've ever encountered visiting NY were a group of midwestern tourists.
I've found it's better to make up one's own mind.
