Depending on what species you, want to catch...Generally salmon run form early may to late October.
For example ; in southern Alaska near Skagway just a few weeks ago chum and Coho, were almost finished for this year...
I recently visited central California in September, and found some excellent fishing mags like "North west " and "Fish and Fly"
During the summer months I work as a fishing guide in the Yukon, so when it comes to fishing... i know a lot about the subject.
but for you, go to your nearest tackle shop and ask there...

Salmon fishing is at it's best during the salmon runs which can occur as early as May in the north to July as you move southward. Often a late run may happen as late as October.

WHEN THE RUN STARTS IT SHOULD REALLY START WHEN IT RAINS AND IT MAKES THE FISH MORE ACTIVE AND THAT SHOULD BE THIS WEEKEND MOST LIKLY IN SACRAMENTO USE A TOP C LURE
