I can't believe the answers to your question. I will take a little time to explain what is happening, I have the same condition.

You have allergy symptoms. I don't know what state you are in but more than likely you are allergic to tree pollen. Cedar pollen is terrible. The key to differentiating a cold symptoms from allergy symptoms is the sneezing. Watery eyes, sore throat, sinus congestion/runny nose/post nasal drip, itching eyes are allergy symptoms. However, if you let the symptoms continue and get worse without treatment then you develop flu like symptoms and it is easier to catch a rhinovirus and develop and upper respiratory infection, sinus infection, and/or the flu.
The post nasal drip is what catches and provides a medium for airborne pathogens to get logged in the mucous membrane of the nose and throat, so drying up sinus/nasal secretions is the key to avoiding catching the flu/URI. Furthermore, cold remedies are going to help with cold and flu symptoms, but if you don't treat the allergy symptoms it will double back on you. Allergens come and go on a daily basis so that's why it may seem that cold and flu remedies work when they don't.
See your doctor his/her recommendation. I suggest you try an over the counter antihistamine with decongestant and follow the instructions. Don't expect a cure in one day, because, you let your symptoms progress to the state you are in now. It may take 2-3 days to get real relief but you should start to feel better after 2-3 doses of the medication. Then you should be able to get almost immediate relief each time you take the medication. I also suggest you keep OTC Benadryl on hand for allergy symptom break through.
Research the pollen levels in your area on a daily basis to determine which allergen is affecting you the most. For me Claritin D handles all my symptoms when the cedar level is <1000, whereas, when the cedar level is >1000 I have to take Claritin D every 8 hours and Benadryl every 6 hours until the pollen levels decrease. Cedar pollen is highest in cold weather and spikes whenever a cold front with rain comes through the area mostly between August and March. Your pharmacist can recommend an OTC eye medication for optical irritation, watery eyes, itching and swelling. But if you have a lot of eye swelling you need to be seen by a physician asap. DO NOT CROWD THE EMERGENCY ROOM UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED TO. See your family practice MD or clinic.

Try Benylin 4 flu. It is available in tablet or liquid form. Speak to the pharmacist first if you are on medication from the doctor. This will help all the symptoms you are describing, and it saves you having to buy two or three different medicines.
You mentioned that you are taking paracetamol and hot lemon drinks - if you mean lemsip or beechams hot lemon drinks, don't take paracetamol with them , as they also contain paracetamol therefore taking them both together could harm you. I work in a pharmacy and this is the advice I would give to any customer with you symptoms. Hope you feel better soon.

Pop to a pharmacy tomorrow and have a chat with the pharmacist. They are likely to recommend you take an antihistamine for the runny eyes, a cough suppresant like Pholcodine Linctus, antibacterial and anestic lozenges such as dequacaine and paracetamol. Till them, just rest, drink plenty and stay at a nce temperature. Hope you feel better soon.

Sounds like flu. Nothing you can do except try and relieve the symptoms like you're already doing. Take paracetamol every six hours, gargle with soluble aspirin to ease your throat. If you're coughing anything up it might be worth checking with your doctor to see if you need antibiotics, otherwise it's not worth going to the doc for - antibiotics will not work against flu. Hope you feel better soon.

I have exactly the same thing all the past week but am feeling better now, I took lemsips and tried to stay in today and now it's lifting. If you have a really high temperature I think you should go to the doctor otherwise plenty of rest and lots of fluid.

I hate the way people are quick to advise you to go to the doctor or take drugs.

I'm not claiming to be a physician myself, but a bit longer in bed and plenty of fluids should sort this out for you. If, however, nothing has changed in the space of a further four days (a week in total) - then you should probably see a doctor.

Hope you feel better...

Go to the herb store and see if you can get some help! I am wondering if you have an allergy and if you are being treated for this! Maybe someone at your drug store (go to one that can take out time to talk to you) can advise you on some over the counter medicine to take! HOPE YOU ARE BETTER REAL SOON! Maybe you should do like I am and be sure to get your vitamin C-if you can take it.

You should go to the doctor as soon as possible. Try taking a head/throat over the counter medicine, or a flu-formula medicine if you can't get to the doctors today or tomorrow.

You've got the flu, put up with for a few days and it will go away, there is no known cure for the flu, only a few things to help ease the symptoms.
