By the way, if you discover you are descending into hell, will you freak out and start kicking and screaming? Me, I'm a saint so I don't have to worry about that one. Just curious.

Your Soul is your Second Mind. A Spiritual Invisible Super-Computer that does things for you.
Your Soul works with your Brain.
You, A Spirit have a Mind too. Your First Mind which is YOU.
You will never lose your Soul. It goes where you go.
When you wake up in the Morning YOU know who YOU are (first mind, you).
When you try to remember something or do math, you might not be able to till that first cup of coffee or just moving around getting oxygen to your Brain.
Your Soul works with your Brain. They affect each other, after you get your Brain and Soul up and going, you can remember things and do math better.

Is your personality earth-grown? Perhaps some of it is, but I have met people who were raised lovingly, and have siblings who responded in positive ways to this nurturing process. Yet the same home and nurturing has given life to a contentious soul... Why? Because who we are is our choice, and this rises above all other influences.
So to answer your question - glib as it is - you _are_ and this is your conscious choice. If you choose to love your earthly existence, then you travel to your highest and greatest good. If you "play" at life, then you are the fluff you pretend to be, and will be consigned to returning here until you heed your inner voice, aka your soul's calling.
But you already know this, don't you.

Man, I hope not. I remember, back in my college days, there was a dude named Thaddeus, who got a thrill out of boring me to tears. He loved to talk about his Quantum Electrodynamics stuff. One time I saw him walking down the hallway. I tried to scurry for cover, but he saw me. He said something like, "Hey Joe, I just figured it out. You take the divergence of the curl of the Poynting vector, and then you apply the Laplacian to the wave function, and then you..." I was thinking that this guy definitely needs a woman.
If he and I go to heaven, I'm afraid there will be no escape. And there are plenty of folks just like him. He will stick to me like stink on sh*t. If I get Born Again, and our personalities stay the same, I'm going to spend an eternity bored to tears!
If I happen to see Thaddeus in Heaven, I'll be delighted to descend into Hell.

What if you decend into hell and form an underground resistance, and after staging a coup to overthrow the current ruler of hell, you march your armies to the gates of heaven and just camp out there for the rest of eternity?
