Wait for it to bark normally, then ring the doorbell and give it a treat. That way, it will associate barking with the bell.

If he barks when someone knocks on the door, get a friend to knock on the door and ring the bell at the same time. Praise him up and down when he barks. Slowly do less knocking and more bell ringing and in time he should get the idea.

Change your doorbell ring sound to the noise of a cats meow that'll annoy him enough to bark ;o)

I taught my dog to speak in a few hours, he picks up quickly. When your dog barks for any reason, say "Speak", then when he does, praise him saying good dog and pat his head. I did this a few times and my dog now speaks when i tell him to. After he/she learns this, when the doorbell rings, say speak, and keep doing it till it is automatic. Dogs are pretty smart.

Teach him the basic speak command. Then ring the doorbell and tell him to speak - reward him when he does. Soon the doorbell will be the trigger for him to speak.

Why do you want it to bark?Iv got a terrier and everytime someone knocks on the door or rings the bell she goes mad,iv had 14yrs of this and its drove me insane, think twice before you teach it this skill other wise you will wish you were deaf, honestly.

This may sound mad but if you bark whilst rushing to the door, your dog should see this as his pack's behaviour and if you are consistent he should, within time, begin to copy you!
Alternatively, record a barking dog and press it each time you answer the door.

train him.. take him to the door, and every time you ring the door bell & he barks give him a doggy treat, when he doesnt dont, its sound association, the dog will be happy to oblige every time there is a reward. Are you sure your dog is able to hear?

For most dogs I know of (such as mine) this should come naturally. If your dog's a puppy, this will probably come in time as your dog gets older and is ready to use her voice. If not, praise your dog when he/she barks at the door, and it will come. Ding-DOng!!
