I don't know about. But I do know that large cats still prowl around the heavily wooded areas of southern Indiana. Which is why you don't go walking in the woods without a rifle and large caliber handgun. Day or night.
So if you go walking in heavily wooded areas watch out what is above you in the trees. Here kitty kitty.

First of all the US has no projects involving bringing back the big cats native to this continent, other than protecting them in current habitats. Also for those who say they were never in Ohio,Wrong! At one time the mountain lion spanned almost every wooded area in the US from Pennsylvania to Oregon. Supposedly there have been sightings outside known habitats and that is very possible as populations expand, cats are very territorial and need many square miles as their area, and will drive out any other big cat moving in thus moving them further out. As long as no people are hurt their territories will most likely continue to expand. It is as far as I'm concerned a good thing, they are beautiful animals that play a vital role in the ecology of the areas they inhabit, and since there will still be plenty of deer for us hunters due to huge overpopulation most won't complain.

I don't know if they have been or not, but I live in NE Indiana and I, like many others here, have personally seen a large black cat/panther and there is actual footage of them in the area.
It has a body about as tall as a lab but is longer with a very long tail.
I have heard that they have migrated here from Pennsylvania, but I don't know if that is true. It is quite possible you have them in your area.

I'm in Columbus, OH (right in the middle of the state). I've never heard of anyone deliberately leasing large cats in the state. We have had a rash of unconfirmed sitings recently. The was on about a year ago as well.

I know they did in Iowa-a farmer shot 1 for killing his cattle and it had a chip in its ear and the DNR came knocking on his door. They had been planted to reduce the population of something else and now are killing livestock. I live in Wisconsin and we have them around here too but I'm don't know that they were released.
