To stress the muscles properly? Direct resistance, weight lifting is irreplaceable. Put weights on your shoulders and do deep knee bends. Want to thicken the muscle and strengthen them at the same time a leg press machine is the way to go. Squat machines etc. You're in a sitting position pushing the weights away from you like your feet were on the brake pedal of your car. Don't forget the basics; rest periods between work outs so the muscles can repair, proper rest to restore and balance your metabolism, stretching and sufficient warm ups before the work out and increased amount of proteins to compensate for your work-out demands on your body.
