I'm taking the Florida to NY to Boston to Dover, NH route for the first time. Can you tell me what to expect, how to pass the time, what to bring for a train trip, what the food situation is, or anything else you can contribute?

Just be aware that your train into Boston will arrive at Boston's South Station and your train out of Boston for Dover will depart from Boston's North Station. The 2 stations are a couple miles apart!

You best bet would be to get off 1 stop early at Back Bay Station and take the MBTA subway to North Station to catch your "Downeaster" to NH.

Enjoy!

Sleepers are pricey, but definitely the way to go, if you can afford it.

In addition to the above, bring your favorite snacks along with some fruit. I'd bring bottled water as well. The club car and snack bar are not open 24 hrs, so additional beverages are a good idea as well.

You will be provided with a small pillow, but I would advise bringing your own, as well as a light blanket. Wear light footwear.
Any trip has its ups and downs, but helping yourself out is a good way of bettering your chances for a pleasant trip.

Good luck and have a safe trip!

If you havent already try and get a sleeper.... the food was well lacking....but edible..I have taken amtrak many times from boston to va. back and forth... met some nice people on there.. a strange one or two near new york...travel light if you can...sucks trying to carry and keep track of your luggage..might want to bring a good book or dvd player something to keep your mind occupied.... I enjoyed taking amtrack.... I would take em more often instead of driving when I go to the midwest , just havent found any trains going from norfolk to saint louis.. or from san diego to saint louis...peace

quite in case you e book the flights early adequate, it may desire to be decrease priced to fly to Toronto from Boston. Amtrak additionally would not bypass direct from Boston to Toronto. you could return and forth from Boston to ny city to get an Amtrak practice that is going to Toronto. Toronto is a pleasing city and that i surprisingly advise going there.
